He was careful, he monitored his mirrors al the time, he anticipated the idiots and on longer motorway journeys he stuck to the speed limit and remained in the inner lane allowing other to pass in the lanes to the right. He also slowed and stopped at pedestrian crossings So how do you explain the much higher rate of road accidents? Some other factor outside of how the majority of Thai people drive? Way more accidents than England but your driver was good so it doesn't count and Thai drivers are safer? It's so bizarre to think that one anecdote of a careful driver outweighs countless examples both lived and witnessed in the news. Did hiring a driver mean you could just travel around with your eyes closed? You didn't see how the other drivers were driving?

They don't have a clue what to do. It's quite possible that there will have to be huge changes that need to take place over decades for anything to improve. As in fundamental changes to Thai society that simply cannot be forced. Every culture has lived through times of much lower education, safety, fairness, more constrictive belief systems, and so on. And it took time for things to change. To introduce something to a society that is basically at a different stage of development and then expect them to be able to manage it as well as a more developed country is actually a little naive. Change will start when people are starting to take responsibility for their own actions. Man in the mirror! all vehicles are supposed to give way to traffic FROM THE RIGHT..... but not here many (motorbikes) just come straight out without giving way......... jacko45k
It seems wrong to even call them 'zebras' and thus associating them with the safe crossings which got manned at school-times in my home country. The blinking lit globes, and central refuge island and the strict rules around them on public roads back then have no similarity to the ones in Thailand, which are simply painted blocks in the road. Perhaps 'cobra crossings' is more apt, as stepping on one without looking is likely to get you killed.

No problem with driver education, police enforcement and the like. Problem solved. somchai getting thrown over the handle bars5555555555 this happened on a lenght of fast road behind us,workers took a week to build speed ramps on this dangerous road as accidents happened daily.then one day a speeding bike rider came off,he complaind to the local council, one week later it was dug up.
