And just who were the victims of his crime?  It doesn't seem that anyone was hurt except a lot of people's feelings.   Did he physically harm anyone?  No.  Did he damage any property?  No.

The Court ruled and the judge has sentenced him.  The case is closed, IMO.   Stop trying to mileage out of it.   It's a done deal.

More of this goes on than you might think, the goal is to get noticed in the press and it's usually done shortly before the release of movie or television show that the alleged victim stars in.  Recall the "beer summit" Obama called?  That was 2 weeks before the alleged victim was premiering a tv series, and notice that the press suddenly went quiet on that one, with no conclusion. Oprah did a similar thing with a shopgirl in Switzerland a few years back, that was a week before a movie she made was coming out.  This guy trying to turn it into a criminal case was obviously a step too far.  Notice that there was no "community uproar," not a peep from BLM et al.  The only celebrity I heard mention this case was Dave Chappelle, who said the way the community was supporting him was by not saying anything because everyone could see it was bs.  But some celebs did go public in the past week to get his sentence eased.

Fake reports like his probably do the most damage to minority groups that often are the targets of REAL hate crimes.

Absolutely.  "Crying 'wolf.'"  And then there is the person(s) being defamed by the false charges: definitely does not engender good community relations.  Notice that even the liberal media in the US knows when to back off on these things.

Conservative Americans are the victims. We were all branded as racists and bigots, you will remember the hoax was described by many prominent leftists as a symptom of the toxic culture the MAGA movement encapsulated. We were censored and silenced for questioning whether his story was credible. Such an outrage were these terrible white MAGA country representatives. Apart from it was fake. Other victims of Smollett's hoax would be actual victims of race hate.

You would imagine if the USA is really a hotbed of anti black and gay violence that Mr Smollett would not have had to pay people to oppress him.

On 3/18/2022 at 4:21 AM, it is what it is said:

you'd know how incendiary race crimes can be in the usa

Yes, thank you for this observation as we often forget,

See also Tulsa Race Massacre, 1921,

when mobs of white residents, some of whom had been deputized and given weapons by city officials, attacked Black residents and destroyed homes and businesses of the Greenwood District in Tulsa, Oklahoma,

The massacre began during the Memorial Day weekend after 19-year-old Dick Rowland, a Black shoeshiner, was accused of assaulting Sarah Page, the 17-year-old white elevator operator in the nearby Drexel Building.

Charge dropped against woman who made false claim to cops about Black man in Central Park

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A New York judge on Tuesday dismissed a misdemeanor charge against a white New York City woman who became an internet video sensation last spring when she falsely claimed a Black man threatened her in Manhattan’s Central Park, prosecutors said.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-global-race-usa-new-york-idUSKBN2AG1Y7

Emmett Till, a young Black boy in Mississippi, turned 14 on July 25, 1955. Almost exactly one month later, he was brutally murdered after being accused of sexually harassing Carolyn Bryant, a white woman, in a grocery store.

Till would have turned 79 today had he not been killed. The two white men accused of his murder were later found “not guilty” by an all-white, all-male jury. Four months after the trial, which took place in a segregated courtroom, the two men admitted to kidnapping and murdering Till in an interview with Look magazine. Because they had already been acquitted, they could not be tried again. Neither ever served time for Till’s death.

Not justifying what Mr. Smollett did, but a suspended sentence, a fine and 2 years parole seems the the right (white?) sort of "justice".

White folk only get in a spot of bother when there's video evidence.

Explains why they wore hoods back in the good ole days.

‘Soho Karen’ Miya Ponsetto could skirt jail time under plea deal

Miya Ponsetto — dubbed “Soho Karen” after she falsely accused a black teenager of swiping her cellphone at a Manhattan hotel — has struck a plea deal that would allow her to dodge jail time, it was revealed Monday.

Ponsetto grabbed headlines after she was caught on video accusing Keyon Harrold Jr., 15 — the son of jazz trumpeter Keyon Harrold — of stealing her iPhone and then trying to tackle him in the lobby of the Arlo Soho Hotel on Dec. 26, 2020.

It wasn’t her first brush with the law. Ponsetto had a charge of public intoxication dropped against her in Los Angeles over an alleged altercation in Beverly Hills in 2020. She was also charged for fighting with cops during a DUI arrest in an incident also caught on camera.

Sorry to interrupt your off topic rant against white people, but Miya Ponsetto is a mulatto (just like Duchess of Sussex who identifies as being black).

To give an example of white privilege by using a black person - well I think you can see the folly in play here.

It is disheartening(but not entirely surprising) to see Smollett's hoax hate crime being used as a cudgel to bash the victims of his heinous and sustained act.

Wow, talk about a rant. Interesting that a few real-life incidents triggered such a response.

So now she's black. I see what you did there. Very subtle.

So you're still playing the victim card.

The force is strong with this one.

Well here we have a racist apologist who starts out by using an offensive term for biracial people.   It's a well known racist tactic to question the authenticity of someone's race.  In this case, it's not even someone who relevant to the thread.

Apparently, racial purity is the marker in determining worthiness.  At a minimum, it is a tactic used to discredit people.

Since another member has already responded with one obvious riposte immediately below yours, allow me to try a different application of your logic:

Next time someone is convicted of making false accusations of rape, try and make the argument that the only person hurt was the falsely accused, since according to you, all those other real rape victims hiding in the shadows, all those individuals unsure whether they have a watertight case, all those on-the-fence about whether any blow-back is worth it...they're not hurt at all. Except for their "feelings".

There we go.

And this woman physically attacked a 15 year old. But she's "troubled" so her other run-ins with the law - booze-fueled fights - are excused and rationalized.

‘Soho Karen’ pleads guilty to hate crime – but avoids jail in deal with prosecutors

It’s a sweetheart deal for “Soho Karen.”

Miya Ponsetto — the rage-filled woman who earned the moniker after she falsely accused a black teenager of stealing her cellphone at a Manhattan hotel — pleaded guilty to a hate crime Monday as part of a plea deal that will allow her to dodge prison time.

Ponsetto, 23, copped to one count of felony unlawful imprisonment as a hate crime for attacking 15-year-old Keyon Harrold Jr. after accusing him of the theft in the Arlo Soho Hotel in December 2020.

I am impressed, you're going all liberal and woke on this issue.   Of course, it's wrong.  Of course, it's illegal.   Of course, there are repercussions from false reports of any kind and there is damage, but victims?  Not really.

He actually hurt a lot of people of future "hate crimes"  He has for a long time cast a layer of doubt over people claiming to be assaulted.  He also cost the City of Chicago thousands of dollars in wasted police effort to investigate his claims.  He then furthered the expense by having the city pay for the expenses associated with conducting a trial, and bringing in witnesses.  IMO he got off easy.

Ridiculous. By your criterion, there are virtually no Black people in America since virtually all carry at least some European DNA.
