Thailand on Monday (March 21) reported 23,441 new COVID-19 cases, 23,153 recoveries and 88 additional deaths over the past 24 hours.

Monday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 3,377,410 with 24,334 deaths.

The news comes as the World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed the discovery of the Deltacron coronavirus hybrid variant in several countries, including the United Kingdom, France and Brazil.

No Deltacron patients have so far been detected in Thailand by an ongoing viral genome sequencing effort.

Supakit Sirilak, director-general of the Department of Medical Sciences (DMSC), elaborated on precautions being taken against the Deltacron hybrid variant, saying outbreaks have been detected in Europe since January.*

Based upon what has been observed in many of the other countries and then looking at @Bkk Brian the graph he has posted above, one would never believe we were seeing any sharp spikes from Omicron in this country.  That obviously has a lot to do with the true inability of the testing regime here as we have always stated and then the testing over the weekend has always been lower and therefore the cases on Monday and Tuesday are anomaly's in my book.  As the WHO indicates in their reports Thailand has a ways to go still, yet they truly do want to believe that they have a handle and control over this.  Just thankful that as a covid positive individual I was not forced into a hospitel, field hospital and allowed to isolate at home per the newest regulations.  I truly do feel sorry though for the actual tourists who come down with this, now whether or not they report it or continue to go  out and about that's up to their moral compass, and is why if they are not isolating that the cases in places like Chonburi are what they are.  Again that's my view.

It seems incongruous to keep seeing these daily updates, when, to all intents and purposes, life is almost back to normal, except for the insistence on mask wearing.

My kid's class has had a kid test positive every week for the last 3 weeks, but fortunately school, and his class, carries on as normal.  Finally.

Newly reported official COVID cases dipped for a third consecutive day to 23,441 on Monday, which is common for reports based on Sunday weekend data, while the numbers of new deaths (88) and serious cases in hospital (1,464) both rose to set new record highs for the year.

Newly reported COVID deaths rose by one from the prior record high of 87 on Saturday. The total number of current COVID cases under care (hospitals and alternate arrangements) rose slightly to 240,339 and also hit a new record high for the year.

Monday's update from the Ministry of Public Health continued a recent pattern of new COVID case numbers declining on the weekends, only then to rise to new highs during the following week.

Monday's tally of 23,441 new COVID cases also was a 5.9% increase from the 22,130 reported last Monday.

The combination of Monday's  official new COVID cases plus the 15,177 new unofficial cases reported via positive ATK tests hit a total of 38,618, up 2.2% from the comparable 37,780 tally from last Monday.

For added context, during the peak of the Delta wave last fall, Thailand's daily COVID case count topped out at 23,418, but the numbers of serious hospital cases and intubated patients peaked above 5,600 and 1,100 respectively, and daily deaths topped 300 for a brief period.

2 major International Schools in Pattaya stated a couple of weeks back that kids who had contacted covid within 3 months no longer have to isolate if a close contact of a positive case due to the levels of natural immunity they have.

This was with the blessing of the Chonburi health department. Certainly starting to move in the right direction.

Same here in Phuket, virtually all government schools are still closed but the International ones including the one my daughter goes to have remained open despite weekly cases in students and teachers.

The Thai kids in the government schools are the ones still suffering and have been for over a year.

Cases will probably stay in the 20-25k range for some time, as that is what the government feels comfortable with. We all know they have really spiked well over 200k per day and maybe up to Vietnam's peak of 454k in a day but the government choose to keep the peoplein the dark about the spread of infections and save money on testing and their useless favipiravir pills from China.

Yes, it's a mid/low-range international school in Bangkok.

Would be good if this was carried out, get some idea of exactly how many people have caught it before.

Use Covid blood tests to calculate percentage of Thai population infected: virologist

Yong said blood tests to detect natural immunity to the spike protein could be used in parallel with people’s vaccination history.

He added that Thailand should use blood tests to calculate what percentage of the population have been infected.

Can you imagine the cost to the Government to conduct such a study.  I mean in the long run it could save them millions if not more, but does anyone believe they would even try and conduct such a expansive test/study.  It really would be beneficial as there are many who have probably tested positive, or never tested and have been sick with the virus.

Covid-19 news: Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine treats covid for first time

The Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine is thought to have helped an immunocompromised person clear the covid-19 virus

Two doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine are thought to have cleared the SARS-CoV-2 virus from a person who first tested positive more than 7 months earlier. This is the first known time a covid-19 vaccine has been used to treat, rather than prevent, the infection
