A gas station chief told of his shock yesterday after a serious incident at the PTT pump in Bang Khun Thian, western Bangkok.

A Thai female driver in a red plate Honda City drove at speed directly at the pumps after hitting a kerb.

Surachart told Siam Rath that he thought the driver was a learner in the red plate vehicle.

The City collided at speed with a Mitsubishi Mirage that was being filled.

This in turn trapped the attendant, Susuma, 36, from Myanmar between the Mirage and the stand behind.

Both of her legs were seriously wounded with the left becoming detached at the shin and the right broken.

She remains critical in Chularat 3 hospital.

The Honda City driver had apologized at the scene and appeared very shaken up by what happened.

Arisara, behind the wheel of the Mirage spoke of spending a night in hospital but was now okay.

The state of her car and needing it for delivery work was another matter.

A combination of police, the driver and insurances companies are liaising over the mess.

Seems like there is no brake pedal in the driving-instructor's side of the car...????

You do realise that there was no instructor in the car and Thai's do not have dual control 'learner' vehicles don't you?

Once my driver had an accident while I was a passenger. It was his / our fault and the guy who was injured, who was terrible damaged in his face came to hospital where I visited him.

After a few days he was discharged of the hospital and should recover in his home.

Our first class insurance was insisting that he should recover at home and then they offered him 20.000.- B....

I had to intervene and insist with the insurance that they paid him well and took over all costs in relation to the accident.

Finally the did.

What makes you think there was a driving instructor in the car?  She has probably never had a proper lesson in her life. Maybe not even passed a test or got a licence.

Many Thais are driving around without licences. No policing to deter them.

Just because she has a red plate car means nothing. Could be rich parents, or bought on the book.

I had a lucky escape from similar. Waiting at a t-junction to turn right on my scooter, when bam!. Hit from behind and pushed out into oncoming traffic. Which luckily managed to stop.

All I got from the woman driver was, " Sorry. I never drive manual car before. Only automatic."

I think that is was the point....   addressed with an element of irony.

A new driver, clearly without any idea how to drive, yet is awarded a licence, panics and someones life is utterly ruined...     She said sorry, didn’t mean to do it !!!...

And here in lies the issue... it was an accident, she simply doesn’t know how to drive so how can it be her fault ?... IMO, this is just as bad a drink driving, the hapless flookwittery is somewhat different but the underlying ‘wrongness’ of it all has resulted in a horrific incident.

Not an accident, people who don’t know how to drive should not be driving.

Driver training is absent....

Those in positions of decision making power continue to avoid any accountability for events such as this while they continue to enable to the carnage simply through not enough flooks being given !...

These were major issues well over 20 years ago when I was first here, as were helmets (not wearing them etc) - how can this still be an issue 1/4 of a century later ????  lazy f-tards is how !!!!...
