If you have been overcharged by a private hospital in Thailand you can contact them
Here in Chiang Mai at Bangkok Hospital I have always been given an estimate of costs, without my asking, whenever surgery was to be performed. The final bill has never exceeded the estimate. -

How Has Thailand’s New Income Tax Law Affected Your Spending Habits?
I personally will have spent more than 180 days outside Thailand this year. Ipso facto my spending has probably dropped by a 50%. For next year I am looking at a similar strategy. I am waiting to see if the government implement laws taxing my worldwide income regardless of how much is brought into Thailand. If the situation stays as is I will reluctantly stay over the 180 days in LOS and suck up paying tax on what I import. However I would be importing the minimum and because of that be spending far less than in the past. The flat rate option may be attractive depending on the rate, if that is ever introduced, which probably is highly unlikely -

Thailand’s first F1 race planned for Bangkok’s Chatuchak by 2027
Teams are already grumbling with a 24 race calendar this year, with several more countries itching to get added. Does Thailand really think they have a chance? Plus the $200 million dollars up front and millions every year it is run! -

Baht becoming ridiculously strong
FWIW, I Just looked at exchange rates of various currencies against the Baht over the last 12 months. May be of general interest. US Dollar -1.3% Euro -6.0 UK Pound -2.0 Aus Dollar -8.2 Can dollar -8.5 China Yuan -3.7 Indian Rupee -3.7 Russian Ruble -15 (Ouch!) Israeli Shekel +0.5 Japanese Yen -9.1 Most of the falls starting around June. Been some rough going for a few currencies the last year. Also noted, other than the UK pound (USD up slightly) the USD has been strong against every major currency over the last year, generally 5-8%. Dips and surges come and go I suppose. I'm not a trader nor financial/economist type, but reading through this thread made me want to look up some longer term data points. -

Thieves Steal Gold & Cash Worth Over 1.5 Million Baht From Pattaya Apartment
Pictures courtesy of Sattahip News. Pattaya City Police Station reported a theft on December 18, where burglars broke into a safe inside an apartment in Soi Korpai, Pattaya, Nong Prue, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi. The incident took place at Apartment No. 567, Moo 10. Police found Ms. Sasikarn Tungchan, 44, a Chonburi resident, waiting outside Room 203 to report the crime. She revealed that the thieves had stolen 32 baht-weight of gold jewellery, valued at approximately 1,400,000 baht, and 300,000 baht in cash. Upon inspection, officers discovered that the room had only one entrance door with no signs of forced entry. The windows, secured with steel bars, were also intact. However, the safe had been forcibly opened and was heavily damaged. Ms. Sasikarn explained that she rented the apartment to stay in whenever her foreign partner visited Thailand. In his absence, she used the room to store valuables, as she believed it was highly secure with a fence, barred windows, a safe, and security cameras. However, when she arrived to check the room, she noticed the security camera had been removed. Upon closer inspection, she found the safe had been tampered with and all valuables stolen. She expressed confusion about how the thieves gained access to the room without any sign of a break-in. She emphasised that only she and the apartment owner had keys, and inquiries about the security cameras revealed they were out of order, raising further suspicions. A neighbour mentioned seeing a tall man smoking inside the room earlier but assumed he was the owner’s partner. They also reported hearing noises late at night. Additionally, in the vacant Room 201 nearby, investigators found discarded water bottles and cigarette butts, which were collected as evidence. Pol. Capt. Itthikorn Saikrathok of Pattaya City Police has ordered investigators to examine footage from security cameras at the apartment and nearby areas. Authorities are working to track down the suspects and bring them to justice in accordance with the law. -- 2024-12-18 -
