Re my 'red one', it's not a Borgward, nor others suggested. Given the expertise here a little too early for clues I think.

OK I'll add the following 'key words' British, & Hollywood.

Could the reference to Hollywood be a bit of a red herring? Could it be a reference to Birmingham or Belfast? So I will take a guess at early 50's Jensen, Lea Francis or Lanchester but the emblems on the hub caps look like Jaguar.

atravellers red drop top .... its a big car , bigger than most british cars of the period , could it be a tickford bodied humber. failing that , a special bodied lagonda.

I'll confirm the car is British, not a coach built special, and the Hollywood is not a herring of the sunburnt variety {promise}. I thought that the hubcaps would give it away after I'd put the image up.

As nobody is inspired...even after a clue, this photo could help perhaps :o

I told you it was difficult

sadic djinn :D

Bitter?

Regards

/edit SC '85/86 based on Opel/GM mechanicals//

And one more cigar for A_Traveller

It is a Bitter SC from 85

THis car had Opel components and body made in Italy. The assembly plant was in Germany.I saw some of them in Belgium at this time (but coming from Germany;taxes are prohibitive for a 3 L engine in Belgium.)

A more easy now

Buick Electra 225 ('64 model at a guess?)

Regards

PS Given the rules I'll go a rummaging for a suitable vehicle for the Bitter.

a traveller , that red british/hollywood car that you posted , its driving me mad , cant get the damm thing out of my mind.

could you put me out of my misery and give the answer.

please.

It's had a good run.

The car is a Bristol 402 convertible. Only 22 were built in '49 & '50. The Hollywood connexion is that Stewart Granger & Jean Simons, his then wife, each had one.

Sorry for the headache.

Regards

PS I'll be back {dodgy Austrian accent} with two later

Would a front end view of the Bristol 402 have been a dead giveaway because the BMW toolings were shipped to England as war reparations, so that early postwar Bristols resembled BMW 326's, complete with the distinctive front end? Lovely side view, anyway.

Didn't Count Albrecht Goertz do a few other BMW's before the 507?

The tale about exactly how Bristol Aeroplane Company and AFN {makers of the Fraser Nash} came to have toolings etc. are the stuff of post prandial conversations. Indeed if memory serves the 400 was launched under the BAC banner, after AFN had departed, shame that, since FN's are no more and Bristol still continues to produce cars to this day. You are right that Count Albrecht Goertz was involved in BMW developments, indeed I think BMW referenced his work when they launched the Z series.

Interesting biography of Goertz, that he was a German count but worked for a while in America at a carwash, and fought for the USA during World War Two. The claim that Goertz did not design the Toyota 2000 GT seems confirmed by an article I recently read. However, I thought he deserved credit for the Nissan 240Z, while the article in wikipedia says was more related to his work on the earlier Nissan dream car.

^^

De Tomaso Longchamp I'm assuming it's a GTS, given the wider stance, and black chrome.

If photographed in the US it's a grey import, they never officially shipped there.

/edit typo//
