June 16, 200718 yr Somebody tells me that you can now purchase some sort of "gizmo" off Cat/Telecom, which you slot into your machine and you will then be able to get a wireless connection pretty much everywhere on the Island. I imagine this is accompanied by a monthly subscription. Anybody know anything about this?

June 16, 200718 yr Author I suspect they are referring to an "air card". Sierra is a popular choice though a bit pricey. Sierra Wireless Yes, I believe they are BUT it seems CAT have their own version at a "reasonable" price and I was wondering if anyone had purchased/used this unit "successfully"
June 16, 200718 yr My friend got one from CAT this month and tells me it is 590 baht a month . They have a promotion free the rest of this month. It will work anywhere on the island BUT it is not very fast. The start up cost is 5900 baht for the box.
June 16, 200718 yr I recollect someone posting about that --I think the Phuket forum. Could be the internet forum but my vague memory is saying Phuket. Check there, use the search function at the bottom of the Phuket forum page.

June 16, 200718 yr I purchased one of the CAT phones about three months ago speed is not great but took it to Chiang Mai also works there only problem i have is the USB cable as i have a laptop when you taking the cable that runs from the phone to your USB port i have found doing this many times can effect the cable making it faulty and i had to purchase a new one from CAT. You can also use the phone as a personal phone and call local numbers for free and international for i thinks 2 baht per minute. Overall its a lot cheaper than any other wireless options on the island 590 baht for one month and the phone was around 5000 baht.

I would like to share the monthly costs and use the Wifi at my holiday home. So who has a ADSL-line in this area and is willing to share the costs? Please PM.

I apologise in advance if I've missed something but could you elaborate? Appreciate your help The best way is to speak to Chris or Tony on 085792 1123 .Cost will vary on your requirements I suppose. They will get engineeer out to check your location & advise if you need small aerial or not. The good part is I'm not limited to using the computer in one spot,I can move from room to room or outdoors.I an not computer savy, but I know it serves my needs quite well with the speed & service they supply.

That's about a 1/3 or 1/4 what I have now and when I come down I wouldn't want to experience such a dropoff in speed.
