Can he appeal severity and get bail while awaiting  outcome of appeal?

What?

He's been granted bail already.

  • he killed someone illegally and gets a year. Yet some who have just expressed a different opinion to that of the establishment are facing 15 years. Truly bizarre!   did anyone look into how

  • To me, thats a "token" sentence because of the profile in the media. Had it NOT had that exposure he probably would have walked.   I feel a ONE year sentence which may actually be alot less

  • Just by way of comparison, vehicular manslaughter carries a 14 yr - LIFE sentence in the UK. Now that or near that, would have been more appropriate and send the right message to others. (IMHO)

The defendan, Pol Lance Cpl Narawit Buadok, will now appeal, apparently hoping for a lighter or suspended sentence. Earlier report stated that he will not appeal but it's apparently inaccurate. He posted 200,000 baht bail surety.

Yes reported that about 4 hours ago - seems to change faster than the weather.

It handed down a custodial sentence of 1 year and 15 days to the young policeman with no suspension of the term.

He was also fined a total of 4,000 baht,

Not bad for manslaughter... and as we know it continues.

He's appealed and it is not unheard of for appeal courts to increase sentences.

He and his father will be hoping the storm blows over and the sentence is commuted/suspended on appeal seems like.

Will Thailand remain true to form and allow nepotism and corruption to let this little cowardly oik off, or will they do what needs to be done and set an example by putting this urchin in the slammer where he belongs?

at the time I posted it had not been released as such.

Of course no mention that the "officer" took a legally impounded, and presumably unregistered and uninsured vehicle out for a joy-ride?

That's because it had been confirmed that the bike was not impounded, he had bought it from a dealer.

The Bike was taken "without consent" from the Police Compound,  this "STORY" does not mention that fact, although it was reported at the time. TWOC = Theft!

It wasn't taken without consent or stolen from the police compound. It was confirmed many times that he bought the bike from a dealer for B80k.

As expected:

THE NATION: A police lance corporal, who was sentenced to slightly over a year in jail for a fatal road accident while riding a bike, was released on bail on Monday after he appealed against the verdict

As is his right.

The fine and sentence are a joke.  Didn't say he can never be a police officer again. Seems like 3-5 years would be more appropriate.

"Seems like 3-5 years would be more appropriate".

The appeal court may decide that also!

This kid literally got away with a murder

No, literally, he did not get way with "murder".    And he's not a "kid".

Just imagine the sentence if it was a farang. 10 years at least.

You have something credible to base that imaginative assertion on?

I understand it had been impounded at the Police Station for some reason. He was allowed to take it for a spin!

He had bought the bike, that was widely reported and confirmed by the seller, a dealer.

sad to see a silly sentence 1 yr !!!!   manslaughter should be 7 yrs which would be in eastern countries !!!

He wasn't charged with "manslaughter", he was charged with reckless driving casing death and eight other charges.

Anyone surprised?

Of course not, appeals are part of the legal system that everyone is entitled to.

Troll posts and responses to other removed posts also removed

Hope they've got a good lawyer.

Personally it will take more than a good lawyer but I'm glad the family is sueing making a attempt instead of accepting.

if the courts can make such a ruling not holding out hope for the family.  Earlier a court suspended the sentence of another individual who came close to doing the same the swamp I'd very deep here.

Norawich was found guilty of nine counts…

Driving a vehicle without a license plate.
Using a vehicle with unpaid annual registration tax.
Using a vehicle without third-party damage insurance.
Using a vehicle which lacked equipment e.g. wing mirrors.
Failing to keep motorcycle in the left lane.
Speeding.
Driving without consideration of the safety of others.
Not following road markings.
Reckless driving causing injury to people or property and reckless driving causing death.

Amazing they found the softest pair of kid gloves with which to handle the young policeman.

Must be a very low ranked cop.

Let's see how long Ferrari Joe gets

No zebra crossing, not a doctor, high rank ( ie sensitive information knowledge)....

Probably 2yrs, suspended, and 10k fine?

Plus maybe to auction off a few cars under the table for a couple judges and police bosses at a special price.

Note,

There was no mention the young policeman fired for breaking law and causing a death, not stripped rank, not to pay heavy millions of compensation to the victim's family.
