Giving birth in Thailand

Featured Replies

I am a foreigner currently staying in the Southern part of Thailand (Songkhla Province). I have recently found out I'm pregnant. I want to find any good Hospital recommendations for child birth.

Moved to the Helath Forum for better replies.

The most important considerations for where you give birth are:

1 - capacity to handle maternal and newborn complications. Only theh igher ter hospitals have neonatal ICUs.

2- finances. Unless you either have insurance that covers maternity, or are very wealthy, you should dleiver in a giovenrmebnt hospital. While delivery packages at rpivate hospitals may be affordable, costs in case of complications can easily reach 2-3 million baht.

If you are working and covered by Thai Social Security, then you should be registered at a specific hospital and delivery there (and anywhere else they might refer you) would be free.

In Songkla provinces, 2 government hospitals have the necessary facilities to handle newborn complications:

1 - Prince of Songkhla University Hospital (Songklanagarind Hospital)

2 - Hatyai Hosptal

both are in Hat Yai town.

If you are covered by SS, pelase advice what your registered hospital is.
