Platinum Condo - Pratunam

Recommended Posts

I am considering buying a couple of studios in Platinum Fashion Mall. (I would prefer a larger condo in the same building, but none seem to be on the market at the moment.)

I have only 2 days left in Bangkok this trip, so all timely comments or advice from locals will be greatly appreciated.

There are lots of 1, 2, and even some 3 (probably older and in need of restoration) bedroom condos listed in Sukhumvit 1-40 at similar prices to 2 x Platinums, but I like Pratunam even though it's usually crowded and often a traffic jam nighmare.

I imagine a couple of centrally located studios might be easier to rent out than a larger condo, and if I buy two side-by-side I can punch a hole in the dividing wall if ever I decide to live in it. :o

the Platinum seems to be a nice (reasonably priced) mid-level project with lots of bargain & wholesale shops at the podium level (and smaller fitted-out condo units might be easy to rent out to foreigners if they want to be in the Petchburi Road area)....

that area, although really traffic-congested now seems to be slowly transforming....

also recently, the Crown Property Bureau has donated a 20-rai chunk of land (just across the Saen Saep Canal around the back of the Central World Plaza) as a public park with the Royal Golden Jubilee Pavilions as preserved center pieces...

if the city would only improve that pedestrian walkway on the way to Central World (on the bridge over the canal on Ratchadamri Road) it would be much better...

also nearby, the new luxury Kempinski Hotel is coming up (behind the Siam Paragon shopping mall) and there appears to be a new road access (over Saen Saep canal) connecting that hotel to Petchburi Road....

lastly, the under-construction Makkasan Railway terminal (eventually connecting to the Suvarnaphum Airport) is very close by....

if you don't rent out the unit, the unit might be a convenient place to sleep and relax (and keep your own belongings) if you are a frequent short-time visitor to Bangkok (instead of always renting hotel rooms at the nearby Amari Watergate etc.)...
