Amulet repair

The plastic case of my amulet broke.
Now I'm looking for

• a gold smith who disassembles and later re-assembles the gold frame, and
• an experienced plastic case maker, using quality material

Can anyone give me an up-to-date advice?

The frame is 96.5% Thai gold, discolored from years long wearing, and photographed under poor lightning.

No experience in Chiang Mai

 

But have you tried the gold shops? In my experience they usually have a guy on site who does this work (kind of a given if they want to sell the gold cases). Worst case scenario switching out for a new gold housing wont be too costly though weights do vary but the value of your old one offsets against it. But Ive seen these guys forming up the perspex with heat, beggars belief the cant replace for you.

Go to Tippanetr amulet market on the road of the same name which is just west of Wualai road. They should be able to help you out with the plastic case and maybe even be able to repair the amulet.

 

There are a couple of gold shops on Thapae that get mentioned here, Shiraz jewelry for one, but no personal experience.

Mate, not only have you bought superstitious nonsense you have also been conned. As @FolkGuitar asked, the answer is pure gold does not discolour so simply you are unfortunately just another mug tricked into buying something that isn't .

The 3.5% that is not gold can discolor but it is much more common in lower purities.

Thanks for your friendly advise, Khun Mahseer and Orang37.

Tiphanet amulet market was just the right place.
1.5 hours work and 300 THB for gold smith and acrylic housing.
According to two different experts the alloy is standard for amulet frames: 90% gold, no rip-off at all.
BTW - The "Ong" is Luang Phor Ngoen.

Thursday amulet market at Kamtieng, across from the post office and next to the big Tesco. 
There are booths that do nothing but make these. They are REALLY good. I had some special sized made and was absolutely amazed at the quality of workmanship.
