MANILA – Three children died and three others were hurt in a fire that hit a residential building in Quezon City on Sunday morning.

According to the police report, the fire occurred around 4:15 a.m. on the third floor of a building along Kaliraya St. in Barangay Tatalon 1, Quezon City.

The police said the children who perished were aged 9, 8, and 4.

The children’s parents and older sibling also suffered injuries and were brought to East Avenue Medical Center for treatment.

The children's father told reporters that his wife was awakened by the thick smoke coming from a vacant room on the third floor that quickly spread to the living room.

The father said he and his wife grabbed their four-month-old baby and crawled to the second level with their eldest child.

They reportedly threw the baby through a window to the arms of a neighbor, who caught the infant safely.

The couple along with their 13-year-old eldest child jumped from the second floor.

Based on the initial investigation, the police said fire was allegedly due to faulty electrical wiring. It was declared fire out by 4:47 a.m.

The Bureau of Fire Protection placed the damage at PHP500,000. (PNA)
