Out of control foreign "tourist" smashes up Bangkok Bank branch in north - causes nearly 500K damage

    When you are 40th in line waiting and Bangkok Bank only has one teller who is taking 30 minutes to deal with a customer depositing company payroll.

A bit harsh, if not just a populist over generalisation and there's no excuse for this behaviour, other than possible mental illness.

I find these corporations can be very frustrating, mostly in wasting my time or simply inane process requirements. But people working in these places are just doing their job and don't deserve the abuse that gets meted out to them.

Much of the frustration is a sign of the times as regards process often legally required, e.g. privacy regulations, and shareholders coming before customers. And there are companies out there trying to be more customer focused and socially responsible.

You make an interesting point there.  What takes a couple of minutes at a UK bank can take 1/2 an hour in Thailand - more if the usual plethora of photocopies are required.  There is one bank close to my (Thai) home that photocopies each individual bank note everytime I exchange currency.

Yes, it can be frustrating dealing with banks sometimes , with the cashier not speaking good English and sometimes you have to wait because other people are depositing money . 

     You can understand felangs getting frustrated using banks .

Although if it was a Thai guy who smashed up an ATM machine , it would be  because he was on drugs , lacks education and has got a small penis and cannot control himself .

That would take too much cooperation between banks and immigration.

I perfectly understand the man....I have been close to that on severaL occasions.  Bangkok Bank have some crazy ideas/rules and some even crazier staff making them up.  One of them is do you know if your ATM card expires or is faulty you must travel yourself in person the accounts home branch to get it replaced?  Any other bank can replace no matter where you are.  So imagine you have an a/c at BB in Silom and you go on holidays to Chiang Rai and lose your card, or it expires, you are up sh#t creek because you need to get back to Bangkok to do anything about it.

Indeed.... I recall getting annoyed at the SCB Branch Manager in Thonglor... 

 

I can’t remember exactly what I wanted, but it needed proof of ID. 

My Passport was at immigration (work permit processing I think), I had a letter. 

I had my Thai Driving Licence & UK driving Licence, I had a previous Passport (corner clipped off). 

Bank teller wasn’t sure and got the manager. 

 

The branch manager wouldn’t accept any of this. I made him call head office, I spoke with head office told them what ID I had, they said it was fine. Branch manager, still refused to accept my ID and refused my transaction (or whatever it was I wanted to do at the time). 

 

I recall getting quite irritated and asking him why is he so stupid... (in Thai) in front of his staff...

Feeling slightly indignant and somewhat better.... I jumped in the motor and went to the next SCB down the road... in and out, no issues !!!.... 

 

Sometimes these fools can just push your buttons !!! 

 

 

 

 

 

 

What surprises me is that Thai's don't smash up these Banks regularly as they offer just about the worst service on The Planet !

You never see an Indian or Arab tourist doing something similar to this in Thailand. Also, they never barfine a girl at Nana Plaza and then cut her into pieces and throw her body away in the bag. The ugliest of the stuff done by foreigners in Thailand is almost exclusively reserved for the Farangs. And yet, any thread (on this forum) mentioning the Indians or Arabs is full of denigrating remarks about them being the worst kind of visitors Thailand can get (unlike those perfect Farangs). Just an observation.

as bad as customer service is in Thai banks, it isn't that surprising. they have all the money and the time, whereas their customers have neither!
