Football - Wales overcame another monumental effort from Ukraine to qualify for their first World Cup since 1958 on a night of high emotion and drama in Cardiff. 1-0 they won thanks to a Yarmolenko own goal in the 34th minute.

 

Highlights from the Nations League included Cristiano Ronaldo scoring twice as Portugal thrashed Switzerland 4-0 there were also wins for Greece, North Macedonia, Georgia, Malta, Sebia and Norway who beat Sweden 2-1.

 

The Czech Republic and Spain drew 2-2. Lionel Messi scored all 5 goals in Argentina's 5-0 thrashing of Estonia in a friendly in Pamplona Spain.

 

Tennis - Rafael Nadal won a record 14th French Open as he defeated Norwegian  Casper Ruud 6-3, 6-3, 6-0 in Paris he also now has won 22 Grand Slam titles  two ahead of his great rivals Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.

 

Cricket - Joe Root's masterful century led England to a five-wicket win in the first Test against New Zealand on the fourth day at Lord's. 

 

Root, who ended 115 not out, also became the second England batter after Sir Alastair Cook to reach 10,000 Test runs. England ended their second innings on 279 -5 they lead the series 1-0.
