ฆวย is how it is spelt, and there are many different versions of romanisation (transliterations, transcriptions, pronunciation guides), khuay one of them.

 

In the novel "The Bridge over the River Kwai" and the film title "The Bridge on the River Kwai", Kwai is the book author's translitereation of แคว

i saw an interview with an ex-soldier who got a chinese character tattoo with along with his mate that they thought said 'brother'. it was a while later that they found out the character meant 'fairy'. i guess it pays to understand the culture you're appropriating.

Next time they meet, the tattoo guy is gonna get wrecked ????????
