The mandate requiring the wearing of face masks in public will not be lifted outright when the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) meets Friday, but guidance will be provided as to where masks can be removed.

 

Today, Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul dismissed speculation that the CCSA will lift the face mask mandate, saying that it is a social measure and the Ministry of Public Health does not intend to do away with it yet, but will assess in which public venues the requirement can be relaxed.

 

Government Spokesman Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana said that Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, in his capacity as the head of the CCSA, has made clear that, in considering the face mask issue, the CCSA must exercise great caution and listen to the opinions of many experts, with public safety being the primary concern.

I thought the wearing of masks was a medical requirement not a social measure!

Surprise, surprise. They are clearly not brave enough to make the logical and correct decision.

This mandate will probably still be in place this time next year.

You were just some seconds quicker saying that. What social purpose should it serve ? Something like "we all wear the same cap because we are all of the same united group", just like they do it in Japan and China ?

Please keep mask mandate for a few more years. Bought several 100 of them by mistake.

Well, they need to look outside their silly little box, and at real 'experts' around the world.

Don't they understand that even if/when it is lifted, many Thais will still wear the stupid masks, and I reckon quite a lot of businesses will force or encourage staff and customers to, as well. It's not as if all of a sudden everyone will stop wearing (and more importantly buying) them.

looks like the top government agencies discuss mask law every week, with the government officials giving contradicting statements.

I've worn a mask(a buff, actually, but it serves the same purpose) constantly for the last 3 years, never below the nose, always properly, simply because I respected the Thais' wishes for us to wear one, but now I just can't, it's too hot. 

I'll keep the buff around my neck so whenever I'm in the market/7eleven/mall etc, and even when I'm near someone in public I can pull it up, but I refuse to wear one walking the dog on empty streets at 5am, riding my bikes on open roads, walking to the shops or post office, it's just completely pointless, and as someone said in a recent thread - nobody ever gets punished for not wearing a mask! 

I have noticed so many Thais not wearing them too, I don't feel like the odd one out, so that's it, I'm done(unless indoors in a public place). 

 

I think the 'rulers' have kept the mandate in place to keep the people happy, I honestly belive a majority of Thais are fine continuing to wear masks. Keeping the mandate was a political move. The people in charge are not at stupid as we think.

Thai Health Ministry to reportedly propose nationwide green zones

 

 

The Thai Health Ministry will reportedly propose reclassifying the entire nation into relaxed zone designations and restore normal nightlife operating closing hours to the Center for Covid-19 Situation (CCSA) in the upcoming meeting on June 17th.

 

Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul revealed today, June 16th, that the Ministry of Public Health would propose a nationwide color-rezoning into the green zone or the surveillance zone to the CCSA in the upcoming meeting tomorrow June 17th. The proposal, according to the minister, was already put into the meeting agenda.

When questioned about petitions from nightlife operators to revert the legal closing hours to pre Covid-19 hours, the minister answered that he had consulted this issue with Dr. Kiattipoom Wongrachit, Health Ministry Permanent-Secretary, and Dr. Opas Karnkawinpong, Director-General of the Disease Control Department. Both agreed to extend the closing hours by another 1-2 hours, which meant nightlife places could open until around 2 a.m. based on their current closing hours at midnight, as long as the remainder of the CCSA agreed.

“The extension is fine as long as the nightlife places follow the rules and do not open overnight until dawn,” Minister Anutin said “However, it still depends on the CCSA.”

Everywhere in Oz except the state of  socialist Victoria is lifting the mask mandate at all airports this week.

Ah solly, but we have already assessed that the situation is no longer a threat, therefore as mask requirement is not law perse, but merely a regulation, most of us have lifted wearing the mask around our village, yes everyone has had a gut full waiting for you lot and hopefully it spreads as did this virus once when people have had enough around the country.

I see where he is going with this:

Wear green masks in them there green zones

In a bar restaurant you are allowed to take your mask off, but walkig in the open air in an empty street you mus wear one....Logical is far away here...Most countrie started to get rid of the face mask before relaxing other rules.. here they relax rules but the mask must be kept on... I agree a lot of people look better with a mask than without, but tourists will not be happy... Unless just as with wearing a helmet on a motorcycle... everybody stops with it and nothing will happen..

And then we have those riding motorcycles, wearing a mask…. but  no helmet. Mai Khao Jai…..???

 

Or, driving in their car, alone…..and wearing a mask…..

Public safety  the main concern .........there are so many  other older problems causing  public safety too, but  you do nothing about them
