Jim, soi 6.
Retired dental surgeon from Norwich.
That's what he says.

He has always a few tools in his bag.

Does he own a lambo by any chance?

How did the bad mojo manifest itself?... I wonder.

Best to give that place a wide berth lest it return in some new form.

As I was told, due to Covid they had to close for several months or close to a year. When they re-opened they found that Thai people decided to put off doing any dental work - unless it was an emergency - until the Covid situation improved. That combined with no dental tourism for two years, they had little business and were paying a very high price for rent with a lot of space. The quality of the dental care was/is very high. They just downsized and regrouped and opened a much smaller clinic under a new name.

I’m curious about CMU dental hospital, as I’ll be in Chiangmai Mai for 2 months, starting 3 September.  I’ve had bad experiences at the University of Missouri-KC dental school.  On a construction site, I had a lower tooth knocked out and the upper one chipped.  The dental school wanted to fix everything, which took over 2 years.  They got rid of the dental enlays (3) that I had done in Bangkok 20 years ago.  They then drilled the three teeth for cavities and refilled what was left of the tooth in preparation for crowns.  They also pulled 2 wisdom teeth, breaking the root on one of them, which necessitated a senior dentist to drill out the remaining parts of the root.

The problem I had was the process took so long that the original student dentist graduated, meaning I was assigned a new student dentist and new senior dentists as advisers.  The senior dentists wanted to tear out the new fillings and do 3 root canals.  I told them that was not necessary and ultimately refused.  A couple of months later, Covid kept the dental school closed for a year and a half.  I’m looking for someone else to finish the job in the two months that I have

You know that the queue for dental work at CMU School of Dentistry is like one year or something like that? For some procedures the queue could even be two years. You could go to the clinic just to the left in the same complex where the Professors practice and get an appointment and get work done immediately? Prices are a little less than outside private clinics.

I’ve got from September 5 to October 31 to get my dental work done.  It’s probably my second priority, behind seeing if a house that my wife inherited in Hong Dong is worth fixing.  From what I understand, it doesn’t have much of a roof.  I’ll have to find someone to work on it or a recommendation here because two of my wife’s friends won’t go near the house because they think that it’s haunted by her ex husband, who died in the house.  I get into Chiangmai on September 3, a Saturday. Monday morning, I’ll work first on getting a Dental appointment, then go by the house, preferably with a builder, to see if it’s worthwhile fixing

I’m here now and am ready to call or talk to a Dentist about 2 and possibly 3 crowns done by the end of October. Someone mentioned clinics near the CMU School of Dentistry. Does anyone have a name, address or phone number associated with those clinics?  If not any recommendations at a clinic will do. I need to get it started this week, if possible. I have too many things needing attention, like my house, my pond house in Saraphi and my wife’s ex house that doesn’t have a roof in Hong Dong.  If you could PM me the information, that would be great!

Good grief, and I thought I had all the bad luck with dentist in the US.

CM definitely has a lot of good dentist, just be patient and mindful of who you decide to go to.

Sorry for the long delay in replying. My house doent have internet service and i dont feel like paying for an installation charge and 2 months use. Concerning Dentists, because i live just outside of Bo sang and most of the recommended dentist are in central Chiang Mai, i went with the last one recommended, dental 4 you.  It was easy to find and a straight shot from Bo sang. I went Tuesday to have 2 crowns made and, after he decided not to try to crown the 3rd tooth because the remainibg tooth was at gum line.  I had it pulled and at least he pulled it in one piece in 5 minutes, unlike the American Dentist who snapped the wisdom teeth at the roots.  He will put the 2 pernament crowns on Friday and hopefully, no adjustments to them will have to be made, requiring a 3rd visit.  The cost for everything is 28,000 baht after applying a 10% discount for cash.  At some point, i will have to decide whether to spend $1,100 for an implant. It wont be this trip.  Thanks for all the rwsponses.

One nice thing about Thailand is Dentists are afraid of being sued.  I told him about my American dentist wanting to do a root canal 2 years after the 2 teeth were prepped and ready with new fillings.  He agreed that the nerves had not died since i haven't had any pain in those 2 teeth after 4 years since the prep work.  I had my dental work at the American dental school downloaded and he said it was very helpful.  Most American dentists would want to re do all the X rays.

The general rule of thumb with dentists in Thailand is get a male dentist (the bigger the better) for extractions and a female dentist for cleaning & fillings.

Once upon I had an appointment with dentist in a very small dent. clinic (i dont remember the name). She was a women and it was awfully! she coulnd get proper xray foto for about more than 6 times.. The filling dropped itself after about 2 months!. Later mb i 'll add an address and her name, as i could find it.

Dental care in Chiang Mai isn't the third-world <deleted>-shoot it was not so long ago.

There have been very good dentists in Chiang Mai for decades.  There was a Seventh Day Adventist Clinic on Chang Puak Rd,  close to where Bangkok Bank is now located, that was headed by the legendary Dr. Lamberton for decades.  Not that one could encounter lower quality dental care, but good quality dental care in Chiang Mai has always been fairly easy to find.

What was the dentist's name?

Interested in a specific dentist name rather than e.g. "The XYZ Company".

Someone you know is excellent for this task, and (at least ideally) with very good bedside manner and very good English.

Thank you.

Grace Dental have dentists that specialise.
