I never saw a Grab driver playing checkers in a tree shade.

Also,  the Grab price is clearly shown in the app before I press "book", and it doesn't double if I am a farang.

  • Why should they have to do that? Money is tight, let them earn some!

  • In some other countries I could possibly agree with you but in Thailand a "Licence" is just a ticket to bribery and not better service/safety!

Taxi mob/mafia is mind boggling.  Just think if they worked and provided a competitive service, and developed a repeat business.

OK, Most do, and are honest, in Krung Thep anyway, but others, don't help their rep much, with their antics and scamming.

I've overheard negotiation with tourist, for price from going from one area to another at Patong or over to Karon or Kata.  For some of those prices, you could get a room.

I used to drive there, then rent a scooter if wanting to hop around the beaches, as parking wasn't worth the hassle, and 200/250 baht was well worth it to park anywhere.  Main reason I stopped going there, simply too crowded, and that was cusp of hi/lo seasons.
