onthedarkside
U.S. rolls out monkeypox vaccine plan as WHO warns of risk to kids Yesterday evening health officials from the White House and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced a new vaccine strategy to target the growing monkeypox outbreak in the United States. Rapidly scaling up the delivery of monkeypox vaccines and targeting at-risk groups with vaccination is the main goal of phase one, White House officials said last night during a press briefing. Under the new plan, 296,000 doses of the Jynneos vaccine will be made available throughout July, 56,000 of which will be allocated immediately. ... Risk to pregnant women, children During remarks today, World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, PhD, said he was concerned current monkeypox outbreaks could spread to children and pregnant women. "I am concerned about sustained transmission because it would suggest that the virus is establishing itself and it could move into high-risk groups including children, the immunocompromised and pregnant women," Tedros said. "We are starting to see this with several children already infected." EVENKEEL
How is Monkeypox spread? "This includes those who had close physical contact with someone diagnosed with monkeypox, those who know their sexual partner was diagnosed with monkeypox, and men who have sex with men who have recently had multiple sex partners in a venue where there was known to be monkeypox or in an area where monkeypox is spreading," the White House said in an HHS press release. Scott
1 hour ago, EVENKEEL said: Exactly Monkeypox does not spread easily between people. Human-to-human transmission occurs through close contact with infectious material from skin lesions of an infected person, through respiratory droplets in prolonged face-to-face contact, and through fomites. Anyone working with children in congregate settings, such as daycare centers, kindergartens and schools know that there is a lot of touching and sharing of everything from toys to pencils. All make for easy transmission.

Modern day complacency has created the perfect environment for any virus to make hay while the sun shines. Even those that were supposed to be eradicated. People infected with polio, or who have been vaccinated with a live version of the virus, shed traces of the virus in their stool – which eventually end up in sewage wastewater. So the current hypothesis is that an infected person brought the virus into London and then spread it to others who weren't immunized. https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2022/06/22/1106711204/polio-found-in-u-k-for-the-first-time-in-nearly-40-years-heres-what-it-means
