Thailand's hanging wires: Bill Gates' holiday snaps haven't changed matters much in Korat

Traders in Nakhon Ratchasima are the latest to complain about Thailand's infamous hanging wires and cables.

Some have facetiously called them the eighth wonder of the world like the Hanging Gardens of Babylon.

They even came to the attention of Microsoft's Bill Gates.

Siam Rath were contacted by the chief of the Kha Thong Kham traders' association and business people of Chinese ancestry with companies on Hua Mankorn Korat road in the north eastern Thai city.

Chaichana Praphrittipong said that a car had already been damaged by sparks from the wires and there were fears things would get worse.

Electrical engineers were on the scene taking pictures and preparing remedial work.

In 2016 Bill Gates famously raised the issue of the wires on a holiday in Thailand. He took photos.

This prompted PM Prayuth Chan-ocha to spend billions of baht burying cables in Bangkok and Pattaya and other cities.

But many places remain an eyesore, and a dangerous one at that.

Many motorcyclists get entangled in the wires, notes ASEAN NOW.

This is repeat of very old and known news. Often reported and it is causing a lot of incidents and even deaths, but no real actions taken. To better this, it will be at an extremely expensive cost as hanging wires is the norm absolutely everywhere in Thailand . When they actually do it on local place, it is like removing a grain of sand from a beach.

its too late to sort the mess its chaos to unravel the mess now

Is this not normal? When the problem first surfaces, burst into action with grand plans and then forget about them 2 weeks later when the next populist campaign comes along. Like flood defences, zebra crossings etc

As if Bill Gates' camera holds the truth.

Me, falang, I tell them......look, look!!!!    lookie, lookie!!!!

Response:  You are not Bill Gates.    Therefore, it isn't really happening.

Imagine if Lisa from Blackpink said, "Wow, so many deaths on motorbike!!!"

Immediate change.
