Trump ex-adviser Bannon's contempt of Congress trial begins with jury selection

WASHINGTON, July 18 (Reuters) - Jury selection began on Monday in the criminal trial of Steve Bannon, Donald Trump's former aide, for defying a subpoena from the congressional committee probing the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol by a pro-Trump mob.

Bannon, 68, is facing two misdemeanor counts of contempt of Congress after he declined last year to provide testimony or documents to the Democratic-led House of Representatives select committee.

A jury of 12 and two alternates will be selected on Tuesday morning. Opening arguments are expected to follow.

STEVE BANNON IS LOOKING PRETTY DEFENSELESS AS HIS CONTEMPT TRIAL OVER JAN. 6 IS SET TO BEGIN

"Prosecutors have said they expect to win this case quickly, with Bannon’s primary defense—that Trump invoked some kind of executive privilege over documents related to their correspondence—having already been struck out by the judge.
If convicted, Bannon faces a minimum sentence of 30 days and a maximum of one year in prison for each count, as well as a fine of $100 to $100,000."

It won't be the same as seeing trump in an orange jumpsuit but it's a start.

There is more coming.

Bannon petitioned the court to force the DoJ to reveal the details other investigations he is subject to, that was kicked out too.

Bannon is trying to play the tough guy.  He even threatened to go "medieval" on his enemies.  He must think he's Marcellus Wallace....5555.  But when he's led away to prison, he'll be weeping like a little girl.

He'll be someone's "girl" alright!

I wonder if he’ll be allowed to wear two orange prison shirts at the same time?

Of course this is just the contempt of Congress trial.  Just?  This is what Nixon would have faced, and that happy hippo Barr stopped smiling when he was threatened with it.  But it's the sedition and whatever else he may have been caught doing since November 2016 that is the main event.  To me he is the true villain of the whole MAGA scenario.  DT is the charismatic leader.  Flynn (who started the "lock her up" at the 2016 convention) is the general.  On 1/6 if Bannon was in the Oval with DT things would have gone much differently.  For perspective:

Steve Bannon’s Emerging Fascist International in Europe

If you noticed guys like Duterte, Orban, and Bolsinaro, to name a few, practically parroting DT when he was in the WH you know who they were talking to.

When Saturday Night Live parodies him Rosie O'Donnell should get the part (the several shirts would hide the bosom).

If DT is the clueless king then Bannon is the evil bishop whispering Neo-facism in his ear.

Contempt is an apt word. It's what decent Americans feel about Bannon.

Mr. Bannon must be luvin it.

Newsweek reported:

The podcast, Bannon’s War Room, has risen to a monthly high rank of 44 among all U.S. podcasts on Apple podcasts, according to podcast metrics company Chartable. Bannon’s War Room is also still in the top 10 news podcasts on Apple’s streaming service.

On July 5, War Room was the 21st ranked podcast in Apple’s news category. It rose into the top 10 two days later on July 7 with a ranking of seventh overall. Wednesday, the podcast was ranked number nine.

Across all podcasts on Apple, War Room has also been given a boost this past month.

BTW, based on House Resolution 503 rules abuses, jury likely acquits Bannon of this misdemeanor.
