Biden unveils extreme heat plan – but doesn’t declare climate emergency

Joe Biden speaks in Somerset, Massachusetts, on 20 July.

Facing the disintegration of his climate agenda as ferocious heatwaves hit large parts of the world, Joe Biden has unveiled a new plan to push billions of dollars to US cities and states to help them cope better with extreme heat.

The president stopped short, however, of declaring a climate emergency.

Biden outlined the new actions in a speech on Wednesday at a former coal plant in Massachusetts, which is now part of an offshore windfarm project.

I will start to take the climate alarmists seriously when THEY start to practice what they preach. That means no more private jets (Kerry, Gore), no beachfront mansions (Obama), no expensive meetings in exclusive resorts with imported food and wine (big carbon footprint bringing all the goodies in).

It seems that they want ordinary people to bear the brunt of any changes while maintaining their champagne socialist lifestyle.

Isn't that how the wealthy and those with special social status have always carried on ?

And I will never take seriously the opinions of people who are two faced and hypocritical about such an important issue.   It shows how seriously they actually take the subject and leaves them wide open to some well deserved mockery.

You're just using this as an excuse to ignore the opinions of those you should take seriously: climatologists.

I believe a have a relativity low carbon footprint to those you mention, I own one property in the UK and rent a condo near my work here, that’s it. So I’m sure that would be ok for you if I was able to influence and call for climate change policies to be implemented.

By your logic however, a starving person in a third world country suffering from climate change drought who has virtually zero carbon footprint would then be able to call me out for my hypocrisy.

do you see where you have gone wrong?

No.

But a guy with 5 houses, 2 yachts and a private jet getting all worked up over OTHER peoples' carbon footprints?

No one’s getting worked up over other peoples carbon footprints, only you.

Did you see any climatologists mentioned in the article?

I only see politicians and activists mentioned.

The probability that Biden didn't talk to climatologists before making this announcement? Zero.

Therefore climatologists don't exist?

Well who would have thought that a massive campaign was initiated by the big fossil fuel firms along with PR companies who were famous for discrediting research on the toxicity of pesticides and for the tobacco industry.  Laying the groundwork for the industries biggest campaign to date, opposing international efforts to negotiate emissions.

The audacious PR plot that seeded doubt about climate change

Thirty years ago, a bold plan was cooked up to spread doubt and persuade the public that climate change was not a problem. The little-known meeting - between some of America's biggest industrial players and a PR genius - forged a devastatingly successful strategy that endured for years, and the consequences of which are all around us.

Climate disinformation leaves lasting mark as world heats

In 1998, as nations around the world agreed to cut carbon emissions through the Kyoto Protocol, America’s fossil fuel companies plotted their response, including an aggressive strategy to inject doubt into the public debate.

“Victory,” according to the American Petroleum Institute’s memo, “will be achieved when average citizens ‘understand’ (recognize) uncertainties in climate science... Unless ‘climate change’ becomes a non-issue... there may be no moment when we can declare victory.”

The memo, later leaked to The New York Times that year, went on to outline how fossil fuel companies could manipulate journalists and the broader public by muddying the evidence, by playing up “both sides” of the debate and by portraying those seeking to reduce emissions as “out of touch with reality.”
