Long traffic delays at Dover ferry port are fault of Brexit, claim French

Because of the Covid pandemic’s travel restrictions this is the first summer since Britain left the EU in which tourist passengers are experiencing full passport checks.

Why does the report fail to mention its also the first time that Covid vaccination documents need to be checked , to see what vaccinations people have and when they had them .

That is what is causing much of the delays .

I have a French friend who works for Eurostar and yesterday she told me that delays in entry to France are caused by the authorities checking everyone's vaccination status , which vaccinating they had, on which date , how many vaccinations they had .

The delays have been caused by a technology glitch on the French side , understaffed counters on the French side and Covid vaccination checking on the French side .

This is all the Fench's fault and nothing to do with us Brits , although Brits have to suffer because of French  behaviour

  • This is what 'we' voted for. This is what 'we' wanted. No point in getting upset, then.

  • UK citizens can now only stay in EU countries for 90 days in a 180 day period. So EU immigration has to check each passport to see how many days left. Plus passports must be valid for at least 6 month

Let me see. First you claimed that checking passports wasn't necessary 50 years ago. And now you claim that the Schengen system is responsible. How does that work exactly? What has the Schengen system done that differs significantly from 50 years ago when passports weren't checked?

Don't connect these two different posts to try and make a single argument. They concern different times and political/border arrangements of those times.

Aren't you the poster who raised the issue of what the situation was 50 years ago and compared it to the current situation? Did I get that wrong?

Well, so you're claiming that security climate of roughly 50 years ago was no different than it is today?

I don't recall there any delays in Brits obtaining entry to France in 1944 when 150 000 Brits  went across the Channel , dont recall ever hearing about the French authorities checking everyones passports back then

Yeah, sure you do.

I suppose you also have a Chinese female friend that works on the high speed rail project.

Bottom line, the UK voted for Brexit and this is the reality of what Brexit is. The fluffy "Lets make Britain Great again" chant of the Brexiteers was only ever waffle

Was Brexit an act of divine intervention? Or could it be called "'man-made' and unnecessary"?

Well someone said "Brexit is a mood, not a policy".

The new rules were introduced two and a half years ago , why are there suddenly delays now ?

It was the French staff not turning up for work which caused the delays and the Frenches technology broke  .

Brexit rules have been in place for 30 months now , you cannot blame Brexit for your own Countries failings , besides , you should have measures in place to deal with any delays connected to Brexit

Convenient word blindness?

What measures should they put in place? They didn't vote for Brexit.

Another twenty booths for passport checks? Who should pay for that?

Strange that the French didn't worry about stamping British passports before we joined the EEC/EU.

Not really a surprise as a common denominator among the Brexit crowd is being stuck in the past.

It's all about the UK leaving the EU , how dare we ,

and now the EU , especially the French are doing

everything to harm the UK , so no other country

in EU would even think about leaving the club ,

We gave them millions to try and prevent immigrants

from crossing the channel , money well spent  ????, if France

and EU are so great , why are these people risking their lives

to cross the channel to get to UK ..........they are safe in EU.

Boring already arrived. Being stuck in passport lines is the very definition of boring. Feel sorry for those who voted no and now have to pay the price for the idiocy.

You expect 100% protection. Maybe the UK should up its payments. Although the law of diminishing returns does apply

What is France doing to prevent illegal small boat crossings to UK?

“It is very difficult for the police to stop people from crossing. We are talking about 150km of coastline, not a port,” he said. “The more money the UK gives to France to militarise the border, the more migrants will turn to traffickers to try to make it across – because they have no legitimate way of doing so.”

And are the remainers still living in the past, a time when the U.K was a still a member of the E.U ?

Actually, they're living in a dismal present which they predicted.

Getting our money's worth would be good , doubt they are REALLY trying .

sure we gave them enough to have a helicopter flying up and down the coast

to spot them.

Ah, so you are using these delays to continue with the "Project fear" campaign ?

There are various reasons for the delays

A glitch in the technology in France .

Under staffing in France

In depth Covid checks in France .

UK flight cancellations causing more people to to to France .

But you ignore all those reasons and try to blame the delays on Brexit , just so you can say,

"See, I told you what would happen if you voted Brexit"

Whilst ignoring all the real reasons .

This is just a continuation of the fear mongering

Wow, you have never been stuck in passport lanes other than France...

You haven't travelled much then, mon amis....????

"The Project Fear" campaign, which is how Brexiters characterized Remainers warning about what would ensue after Brexit, was about what would happen in the future. Well, the future is now the present. So it's no longer about fearing the future, but rather mourning the present. And of course, there is the dubious consolation of schadenfreude as in "I told you so".
