Daily News Thai Caption: Lynched!

 

The Thai public showed yesterday that they have had enough of drunk drivers.

 

They attacked a 60 year old drunk driver in Bangkok after he lost control at a bend and slammed into a "moo ping" stall.

 

When the police arrived at the scene on Rama 3 road outside the ICC company on Soi 29 they found Nawachart with a head injury. He was very drunk.

 

He was being detained in a citizens' arrest.

 

Dead at the scene was 48 year old pork vendor Rampheung who had head and chest injuries.

 

Her husband Wisoot, 50, had already been taken to Charoenkrung Pracharak Hospital with serious injuries, reported Daily News.

Nawachart told police he had been drinking and was on his way home when he lost control of his Ford Everest at the bend.

 

Pol Capt Hanranong Donsawai of the Bang Phong Phang police attended the scene and had traffic cops perform a breath test for alcohol.

 

The old man was tested at 170 mg, almost three and a half times over the legal limit of 50 mg.

 

He was taken away by the police who apparently took no action against the public for the attack.

looks like it was still daytime and he was already drunk as skunk.

He ended up spread across a narrow soi, so probably he was speeding as well

Thais need to rebrand drunks who drive as Terrorist's. Then the courts should follow through the same way and lock them up for 20 years.

No, simply rebrand them as elderly mushroom pickers, then they would get years in jail.

RIP  the Innocent Lady.   To the thousands of Drunk Drivers on the roads in Thailand this won't mean a thing; as they are arrogant enough to think it will never happen to them because they are 'too clever' to let this happen .

 

Only way to stop it is instant Breath Tests on anyone suspected of DD and if they are positive taking their Vehicle and crushing it.  Do that for one month and see the results; but of course, that would mean the so called 'Police' doing their job !

This is not news, its normal behavior here. The cops do nothing, the government do nothing and very many of the public seem to follow the same course.

I thought that 60 was the new 40, or at least for those farang who choose to settle in Thailand. It must be a very young journalist who wrote up the story for the Daily News. 

 

But joking apart, a very sad story of how alcohol messes up so many people’s lives. As usually happens, it is the drunk who seems to suffer the least injuries.

Drunk drivers that kill or wound people should be put in jail mandatory. Drinking and driving just does not mix.

 

Before someone says it.. drugs and driving also dont mix and same applies.

Interestingly, when a farang did this in Pattaya, he got away with it and  the story was covered up by the press.

60 years old ..... bet that wasn't the first time he had driven drunk.

C’mon mate, the government do nothing you say? Dont you remember 2-3 years ago when they put up huge roadside signs saying: «If you drive drunk please drive slow» ????????????

It would be so easy!!!!

Just confiscate and revoke their driving licenses.

Thailand loves to copy everything. So, why not copy some european regulations as Swiss or Germany

Once I was knocked over when crossing the road by a drunk guy on a motorbike. 

A vendor kicked off his helmet in one kick then kicked him again in the head, it was great to watch. 

 

Alcoholism is a disease so show some compassion to the driver. 

When I was an alcoholic, it would have been dangerous to drive without a drink. Just saying having limits makes no sense. 

 

 

the simple truth is that the police are not doing enough - in fact are they doing anything, it is no good catching a drunk driver after they have had an accident and killed - the whole purpose of policing is protection of the public - a concept that the police here don't seem to understnad - you have to catch these people before they kill - crime prevention

If "coffee" money is on play then sadly nothing change ever! Mostly 500 bth and only what get is that police say drive safely home, even you are so drunk that you cant walk!

If you have get yaba and show in urine test then it only cost more. But journey continue even you drive truck or buss.

What if the drunk guy on the motorbike was an alcoholic ?, where was your compassion ? Quote: “ it was great to watch “ ??

 

Or are you just wanting to tell us that you were an alcoholic ??

what are you talking about?  No compassion is needed in that circumstance, none at all. How long before he kills someone;  a kid perhaps, or several? Good old fashioned 'physical chastisement'  may knock some sense into him.

No, 60 is the new 16 in Thailand.

if they have one, which many don't.  No, take the vehicle and crush it, or legally re allocate it to a poor but deserving family, with no legal recourse possible for the previous owner, or auction it.  I could do with a cheap Everest, even if it needs a good deal of work
