Pathum Thani double murder: Rich salon owner bailed after disagreement over "too short cut"

The wealthy salon owner who murdered a couple outside his shop in Lotus Pathum Thani on Saturday after a disagreement over a haircut has been bailed by the court in the sum of 500,000 baht. He will also need to wear an EM anklet.

The grown up step daughter of one of his victims has said there will be no forgiveness from her while she expressed faith in the Thai courts and justice system.

Police had opposed bail.

Thai Rath reported on the latest developments in the shocking case yesterday ahead of the court's decision in the afternoon.

Pol Lt-Col Kawee Chuaysang, the Pak Klong Rangsit officer in charge of the case, said that Prasat Rangyai or "Sia Lek" was due to appear in court for procedings via video conference and that he was aware that his wife was ready with one million baht in cash to bail him out.

It was up to the court's discretion but the police - who oppose bail - were ready to abide by their decision.

He said that the assailant had not wanted to see the couple with whom he had had discussions regarding the haircut over the phone. The haircut had happened previously to Saturday.

The idea that extensions could rectify the issue had also been raised over the phone though this appeared not to be a viable option.

On the day in question he had ordered them out of the shop because they were making a scene. The original cut had been 250 baht.

He said he had invested one million baht in the business.

He said he met them at the front of the shop after arriving at Lotus on a motorcycle. The couple announced they planned to sue the department store and had engaged a lawyer to act on their behalf.

According to Kawee the assailant then said "You want to die?" to the couple.

At this point the woman rushed up to him but he was prepared with a kitchen knife and stabbed her once. The man then rushed him and he was also stabbed once.

He then fled on the motorcycle.

The Thai Rath article made it clear that the assailant had come equipped with the knife.

Yesterday Kritchaporn or Pingpong, aged 20, who is the stepdaughter of the man who was killed and the daughter of the woman was at the police station.

She wanted to get her stepfather's phone to give to his younger biological child who was at the scene of the murders on Saturday.

(Earlier reports named this child as 5 or 8, Thai Rath didn't say, notes ASEAN NOW).

The couple were named as Warisa Wimoonrakchart or Nok and Weerapong Phumphreuk or Bob.

In previous reports on ASEAN NOW they were given the ages 41 and 40 respectively.

Pingpong told reporters that her mother had received a haircut that was too short - no one in the family cut their hair short.

She said that she would have no forgiveness ever for the man who had killed her mother and stepfather.

She said she believed in fate or retribution and Thai justice and the courts.

Then at 3.30 pm came the news that Prasat had been granted bail by the Pathum Thani court in the sum of 500,000 baht.

Police then took him to the court where documentation was being finalized and he would be fitted with the electronic monitoring device, that is usually an anklet.

He had no comment to reporters on his way out of the police station.

Bail !!

The Judicial service here is a joke

He just found it easier to kill them, then to make it look natural by super gluing the hair back.

Yes the shop owner is "rich",that says a lot.

On the other hand i see the courts have been handing down some

real sentences to other rich offenders.

Maybe there is hope?

Giving bail to people like that is just stupid imo.

Rich? He rides a motorcycle and carries a knife. Rich people in Thailand have chauffeurs, high-end luxury cars worth hundreds of thousands of dollars and bodyguards who take care of peasants who annoy them. This guy is just an ordinary fella who casually murdered two dissatisfied customers over a complaint.

He can always do free cuts to avoid being bummed at the local "Hilton" I suppose.

What a total psycho!

Cases such as this warrant a death sentence

A farang recently got 8 years for a murder. Will this be 16 years for a double murder, with parole after 8 years if not a royal pardon before that?

Two stabs, two kills? Wow.

Bail for murder (especially where the involvement is so clear cut) is almost unknown in the U.K. The opportunities to flee the jurisdiction, interfere with witnesses or dispose of evidence are too great to   allow suspects to regain their liberty.

But here, money truly talks.

He is certain to get a custodial sentence -should be life but likely far less, so whats with the nonsense of giving him bail now, when there is absolutely no doubt of his guilt.

If I were the 8 year old daughter, who sadly witnessed her parents being knifed to death -something she will never never forget - I would be waiting for the murderer to be set free, then either kill him myself or pay someone to do it.  Justice needs to be served!

Let me guess: the judge is either a relative or close friend of the accused. Conflict of interest is a concept that doesn't exist in Thailand, I know this first-hand as the lawyer I was using in a case finally admitted to me that he was also acting for the other party!!! That was when he learnt what the Order of the Boot meant.

Bail for blatant murder, which he's charged with premeditated murder makes me sick.

Also, he has already shown that he's a fleeing coward when he raced of on a motorbike.

And the police apposed bail... so what is the judge doing here? Sadly, I think that we all know exactly what's going on. ????????????

Brutally murder two people, in front of their daughter, no less, and get bail???  Outrageous.  And, just 500,000 baht.

Not only that,  look at the words that set him off?  Sue?  How much you think the person was going to get even if they sue and won?  Who would spend the money to hire lawyer etc etc..  In this country legal system if everyone had just taken a moment think do the math it would have ended with everyone rolling on floor having a good laugh.

He rich but cut hair?  Some things smells story Short on information? ????

Then daughter goes to station to get father phone for the kid ????

There is one word in there that should give you a clue as to how the Judicial service here works!

Yep, wild overreactions all sides on this story.

Your haircut could have got you a beating back in late 70's Britain as I recall during my punk rock years.

But nothing like this, obviously.

He is the undisputed double killer and he has been bailed. Thailand, your judicial system is farcical. Meanwhile a farang can be held in custody for catching a parrot fish. Surely there must be some reasonable Thai people who see the total stupidity of the current Thai system.

  • Popular Post

Would rather kill than lose face and compromise.

2 on 1, maybe he was wise to have a knife with him. What would her hair length be by time they were all before a judge? There has to be more to this than we are getting from the article.  I thought every Thai is tooled up.
