South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency reported yesterday (Tuesday) that a Thai male, who had worked in South Korea for 8 years without a work permit, died of unknown causes last week after being detained at a centre in the south-eastern city of Busan.

According to sources at the Busan Immigration Bureau, the man had been taken to hospital the day after arriving at the centre. CCTV footage shows him pounding his head against a wall.

According to the authorities, the man had undergone psychiatric treatment. With a fever of 40oC, he lost consciousness after being brought back to the centre. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

If the illegals are fully vaccinted and leave voluntarily Korea is deporting them without fines or restrictions

Maybe Thailand could take note and learn from other countries which do the same as S Korea. I visited a work college in Immigration nick 8 or 9 years back, Overstay, He had the money to pay for his fight home, but they wouldn't let him out. They said "if you have the money to fly out, you have the money to buy yourself out. His overstay was due to him not getting his school contract renewed and his Non B became invalid. Sometimes things happen through a lack of understanding the laws/rules.

You have to do 100 days in the Pathum Thani provincial jail to pay off the maximum overstay fine of THB 20,000 at the rate of THB 200 per day. But, since it costs them money to keep you in there, the amount they recover through this process is actually negative.

Don't they also have to have the money for a return flight ticket back to their country of departure , even though it is only a one way flight? He had to pay a first class return for a basic economy seat, before BA would fly him back to Belgium.
