Thai Deputy Education Minister Kanokwan ordered suspended following land encroachment allegations in the Khao Yai National Park

Bangkok – Deputy Education Minister Kanokwan Vilawan was suspended by the Thai Supreme Court on Friday, August 26th, following land encroachment allegations in the Khao Yai National Park, Prachin Buri province.

According to a petition filed in 2002, Kanokwan and her father, Sunthorn, a mayor of the Prachin Buri provincial administrative organization (PAO) at the time, were accused of unlawfully owning three plots of preserved land in the National Park since 1990. The grounds were still occupied by the objectors as of today when Kanokwan became the Deputy Education Minister.

 

The Court has ruled for the suspension of Kanokwan as the Deputy Minister to perform her duties until the case verdict was conducted.
