Opinion – Thailand’s border opening set to benefit northeast people who were most severely impacted due to Covid-19

The border regions of the northeast Thailand, one of the regions that was most severely impacted from the impact of the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, is starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel as cross border trade between the sister cities starts to pick up.

 

The northeast region, which has seen those considered to be ‘less fortunate’ numbers rise over the past 2-years, as the income from tourism, manufacturing and other related industries shrink, is starting to benefit from the opening of the border trade between Thailand and Laos.

 

As is the case in most countries around the world, border crossing among those living within the proximity of the demarcation line is a common factor, so is the case with those living in the northeast of Thailand where border crossing into Loas is a very common practice, at least it was the case pre-pandemic.
