Sanook Thai Caption: Fortune amid misfortune

A Honda driver told Sanook how he was just steps away from potential death after a wall collapsed on his car. (for video click HERE)

But his insurance had run out just a few hours before.

A video showed the moment when a wall atop an old three story building collapsed in heavy wind and rain in Bang Sai sub-district of Muang district, Chonburi on Thailand's eastern seaboard.

Local mayor Rungreauangsin Wongsaithong told the media that it was an old religious affairs building that was 55 years old.

Rain had gathered weakening the wall. Civil engineers were trying to determine the structural integrity of the building before decided if it could be repaired or would have to be demolished.

Barriers had been erected amid fears of more collapse.

The Honda owner Anucha, 38, was still in a state of shock contemplating how he had been both fortunate to avoid death and unlucky in other ways.

He said that he had opened the hood of his car to put in a new battery. But he had forgotten to bring his spanner so he went back home to retrieve it.

He'd not walked ten steps before the wall came crashing down.

He said he didn't normally park there but it was close to his home and convenient for a battery change.

But there was further misfortune for Anucha.

He said that his insurance had run out at 4 pm and the wall collapsed at 9.20 pm.

He advised the public not to park next to old buildings or advertising hoardings in the monsoon.
