Can a post be removed in it's entirety by the poster while the Edit option is still available?

I sent one off today then realised I was looking at the wrong page and my reply was irrelevant by several days. My only option was to rub the text out and replace it with something fairly inane. (More so than usual.) :o

The contents of a post may be modified or deleted whilst the edit function is still active, but the post itself cannot be deleted (except by mods or admin).

I once reported a double post of mine and some friendly albeit unknown mod removed it within minutes. Thanks for that!

It's like the "send" button on e mail. Why is it we only realise what a load of b*ll*cks we've written the instant after we click on "send" or "add reply"? Perhaps there should be one of these pop ups that appear saying "are you sure?" with about a five second delay

And maybe a popup plastic tube to blow into to check your alcohol level as well? :o

BTW an off-topic post in this thread has been deleted as it served no practical purpose.

Funnily enough this was discussed at length the other night, but regarding an automatic alcohol sensor, that shuts down your computer once you have clicked into TV, after one to many over the eight.

It would alleviate some rather unfortunate posts :o

Not really Phil, you can delete everything in the text and just leave it as a blank post, which possibly makes you look like even more of a w*nker

I've seen it done else where but I suppose it depends on the Forum software they are using. This isn't a question of taking something away that everyone's read, but removing a post minutes after you've sent it, for what ever reason.

MossFinn, drunken posts are only regretted the next morning when it would be too late for editing anyway and rightly so. Son nom nar.

I agree Sceud, however I still think it would be beneficial for some kind of restricted access to alcohol fuelled postings, a further however, however I would be only on about 17 posts and 75% of the them could be considered borderline :D

However, the point of the committee meeting :o was to discuss the legitimacy of installing an anti-alcohol device which would automatically shut down the computer if one over the eight had been consumed.

Hope this clears up any confusion.

As it stands the motion was passed with all hands, so expect to be informed of the necessary apparatus and installation process in the near future.

I believe a software solution would be the easiest. You have to move your mouse across a straight line while holding both mouse buttons down and typing a passkey on the keyboard with your other hand. :o

Now, you really didn't expect me to come up with a software solution did you? :o

The easiest, for mods too, is if you just edit your post, remove all content and add "*removed post, posted in wrong thread*" or something to that extent. A mod will see it and remove it, most likely.

Good idea... that would be useful.

Seconded. I occasionally do run across a post that a member edited indicating it to be a duplicate and made it easy to know it needs removed.

Actually that's such a good idea I'm amazed I never thought of it myself. :o

I've put in a petition against passing this motion. The post count of thaivisa would drop from

1,380,161

down to about

402 if we dropped all the alcohol accountable posts/

My personal post count, bordering on the big 10 K would drop to about SEVEN.

I've fighting this one tooth and nail unto the breeches my friends, raise the barricades!

Prepare to be boarded, and surrender unto me all yer looty, luscious one!

Trust me my friend I really wasn't serious and anyhow you were part of the committee that agreed unanimously to this Stalinist onslaught.
