snoop1130
BANGKOK, Oct 3 (TNA) – Aeronautical Radio of Thailand Co (AEROTHAI) and the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) introduced the Open Sky app which lets people request permission to fly drones via mobile phones and obtain it within two days. In a discussion on the Open Sky app, Thaleingsak Phathong, AEROTHAI’s senior director for Bangkok terminal air traffic control, said the Open Sky app would shorten the time needed for the approval from 5-7 days to 1-2 days. Submitting the request via the Open Sky app will enable all relevant agencies such as the Royal Thai Police, the Royal Thai Air force, the CAAT to see the information at the same time, so they can consider giving the permission as soon as possible. Popular Post eisfeld
So you travel around, encounter a nice place where you'd like to fly the drone, send a request and then wait 2 days for approval? How is that workable? Why approval to fly in a certain area needed? How about allowing to fly drones in every area that is not prohibited? Noone will follow these rules and just fly the drones as they are doing already. 1

Governments everywhere are starting to demand paid registrations - in Australia it was free to fly until mid this year. In practice if you are in remote area there is usually nobody around to enforce any rules. One just needs to be sensible and not invade people's privacy or fly near airports or military bases. I flew my drone in 5 countries in the last 6 months, never bothered to apply for any registrations, had zero problems including the borders.

Drones from popular manufacturers like DJI already have support for avoiding restricted airspace so that issue has a workable solution. If people go out of their way to circumvent that then they are on their own and can face the consequences if it comes to it. But I don't understand what problem is being solved by a regulation that requires each individual to request permission to fly in a certain area each time and several days in advance. They are not asking for money. They are not trying to protect military bases etc. So what is the purpose?
Baron Samedi
Pretty good move. Hopefully at some point they will do the same for visa extensions.

Plenty of time to charge the batteries then.
