President Biden on Thursday announced that he is pardoning thousands of people who have federal convictions for “simple possession” of marijuana, part of what his administration is calling a three-step plan to ending the country’s “failed approach” to criminalizing the drug.

“As I often said during my campaign for President, no one should be in jail just for using or possessing marijuana,” Biden said in a statement. “Sending people to prison for possessing marijuana has upended too many lives and incarcerated people for conduct that many states no longer prohibit.

From what I heard, it covers about 6K people. Some are already out.

They would get their record cleared.

There is NOT that many "possession" cases in the Fed system, under

200K in the fed system. Most cases are in the State Systems.

It's just a political stunt with elections coming up.

Stated have the rights like booze. You need the DEA to take. pot off the naughty list.

Spelling is a little shaky, given you must have seen both surnames often, but your point is correct.. He was basically the man who pushed through the crime bill that subsequently saw America's prison population explode.

It would be only fitting if he attempted to repair the damage his hard-line approach inflicted on America.
