Daily News Thai Caption: The reluctant thief

Jiraporn, 45, sprung into action when her son told her that someone had been tampering with her bag.

They were working on a construction site and on checking the bag a wallet containing 200 baht was missing.

Inquiries in the immediate Muang district of Udon Thani area indicated that the thief was a lady called "Mai". Aged 25.

Jiraporn went to her home nearby and on seeing that the thief Mai made a run for it.

However later the thief went to return the wallet. Jiraporn kept her there at the construction site after police were called.

They all went to the station where Mai told while she had stolen. She has two kids, a 7 year old daughter and the 4 year old boy who had caught a fever from her. She needed money to buy food and meds.

Her husband was back in Sibunruang with the daughter and neither him nor her had work or money.

She went out to borrow money but then decided to steal from the bag.

She said that she would get her father to transfer the missing 200 baht to Jiraporn.

On hearing the reasons for her actions Jiraporn dropped charges but Mai still had her details recorded and was warned about any future pilfering, reported Daily News
