A 67-year-old British driver who was dozing off inside his parked sedan reportedly got spooked by concerned Pattaya police before speeding away and crashing into a Thai woman.

The collision that mystified Pattaya police took place at the entrance of Soi 6/1 on Sukhumvit Road in the Nongprue subdistrict of Banglamung, Chonburi, yesterday, October 13th in the afternoon.

Pattaya police told local media that they went to check on an MG sedan parked at the Khao Talo intersection. They found a British driver identified later as Mr. Martin Rionas, 67, sleeping inside the car and felt concerned, so the police knocked on the car window to awake the driver.

Parked at the intersection ? Or just happened fall asleep at while waiting for the lights to change ?

Could be a DUI hence the attempt to escape.

very foolish behavior, glad no one was hurt.

At the very least he needs to lose his licence.

this is the other car he hit - owner Ms. Savitree Seesun was slightly injured and was admitted to Banglamung Hospital.

Her red Nissan sedan was also damaged by the British driver.

Just another Brit, that is helping Thais view on foreigners. I sincerely hope they soon understand the difference between Brits and other foreigners.

Who knows what really happened here. Reason I don't drive in Thailand. It's great if you're one of these people who has an iron will and never drives when you are drunk. I realised a long time ago this isn't me. Now it's always my Teerak who drives me.

When will they ever learn?

Really? What a ridiculous thing to say!!!

Why is there deafening silence about a guy sleeping and getting so scared when approached by a thai police man???? So much hatred.....

Sounds like Gottfrid is saying that Mainland Europeans are Sooo Angelic and would never pull a stunt like that… Idiot…

I expect they mean soi 61, soi 6/1 is well North of town near Toyota and certainly not near Khao Talo.

Made in China by Saic Motors, a Chinese company.

so police was taking him for an alcohol test and result was still unknown some 24h when this article was published.

They should also test him for drugs.

He should be charged for fleeing police.

He also parked illegally on the main road and near intersection.

Look at nissan - it was turned by an impact by some 150 degree. Front of the car is facing incoming traffic. Probably she was already in motion (after giving food for monks) and pulled sharply into second line. That might explain this collision. Possibly it was partly her mistake.

MG is an iconic British car brand.

The vehicle is built by Saic motor-CP in Thailand.

But the MG Headquarters is in Britain.

Pretty sure the forthcoming impact to his bank account will far outweigh the damage to the car, probably cost him near to 3-4 million
