It's been a tough time for the Royal Thai Police recently who have been featured in stories murdering children (the ex cop who took his own life), shooting noodle vendors and engaging in corruption.

Now comes some better press.

One Facebook user said that a traffic cop in the Bukkhalo police jurisdiction was "very lovely".

He had picked up a broom to sweep the road fearing that motorcycles could skid on loose stones.

She started her own hashtag that translated as #there are lots of good police.

Comment was rife and the incident reached the ears of the RTP spokesman Pol Maj-Gen Achayon Kraithong at RTP HQ who revealed that the cop concerned was Pol Capt Poonsak Samphankan, reported Siam Rath.

Debris had been left on the road from recent flooding and Poonsak had been proactive in preventing accidents, something noted by the chief of police Pol Gen Damrongsak Kittipraphat.

Poonsak has been in the news before. He once helped a motorist who had a seizure and received an award last month at a top cop ceremony.

He is also in line for a further award as a top traffic cop before his upcoming retirement.

Meanwhile in Nonthaburi on the outskirts of Bangkok, Daily News reported on the sterling efforts of yet another "man in khaki", as the Thai press refer to their police.

This one was helping a downed motorcyclist and other people stricken in floodwaters.

Not that the shooting the noodle vendor wasn't an awful thing to happen, it was close to two years ago.  Implying that it was "recent" is lazy writing.

While this is great to hear, and I'm sure the motorist was grateful, it seems a shame that something like "police helping the public and keeping the roads safe" is worthy of news articles and award ceremonies.
