Thailand’s Cabinet looks set to consider whether entertainment venues in Thailand should be permitted to stay open until 4am.

Speaking on Saturday (Oct 23) Tourism and Sports Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn said the Cabinet will be asked to consider allowing entertainment venues in certain tourism areas to stay open an additional three hours.

Mr Phiphat said that three studies carried out by the Tourism and Sports Ministry found that bars, pubs and clubs would increase their income by an average of 40 percent if they were allowed to open until 4am.

Mr Phiphat said that the issue should go to a public referendum to decide whether or not nightspots should be allowed to open until 4am.

0400 will go over like a turd in a punchbowl for anyone living in close proximity. The powers finally woke up 15 years ago or so and put an 0200 in effect.  It worked well.

Now methinks they are getting greedy after the shut down.

Allow 4 am at locations where are no hotels or residential areas. But close them at midnight everywhere else. There are people that have to work and children that need to sleep. But also others don't want to be forced to be part of these entertainment venues whether they want or not.

Also "motivate" these entertainment venues to operate behind closed doors. Not all tourists like to hear the noise and like to see the sex business.

Alcohol restrictions during daytime, but in the entertainment industry 2.00 closing time must be extended. Same for deadly accidents as we can read many times that a lot accidents happen in the early morning. So The Government want to open the entertainment venues till 4 am but for who??? And we don't talk about the drugs that will be used. Sorry but the night is for the bad...always was and will be. 2.00 am is more than enough

lovely ????

true though

Ideal for the police to get some extra sleep time before raiding starts at 4.01 am ????

So there is more time for the brown clowns to conduct more raids, collect more tea money and harass more tourists. No, scrap the last one. They just promised to be committed to the protection and welfare of tourists. Damn and blast.

And if noisy bars open next to you, just move - or what?

Well it's all about granting a license in the first place, and enforcement of rules and regulations.

People should be allowed to enjoy themselves.

Not controlled by old grumpy,  out of touch men or religion.

Forget the 4am closing.

Gwt rid of the stupid timings selling alcohol. They say its to stop students from buying it. What happens on the weekends.???

2am is plenty late enough.

"public referendum to decide "

After decades enduring the excruciating boredom of sterile western cities populated by women who are 1.5m+ wide and act like men, all the male tourists and expats that I know who escape that life and make it to Thailand really want to hear the noise and most especially see what's on offer with the sex business.

Families probably don't go to those sex business places much. If they end up in Walking Street or Soi Cowboy etc then that's their problem. It won't hurt them....it's not like they're going to be permanently traumatised by seeing some hookers loitering around...

Although I haven't experienced night venue noise, I do know that people adapt very quickly to noise. I once stayed in an apartment in New York City with an overhead 'subway' line outside the window. The trains screeched round a bend, but I soon found I could sleep through it.

It is not the duty of government to dictate what hours private businesses can operate. Market forces should dictate that, nothing and no-one else. And I wonder how those employed in such places feel about working an extra three hours a night? More pay? I doubt it. Also, many employed in the entertainment business like to go out and party with their friends after work in Thai places that, somehow, are not subject to closing time rules. Later closing would not allow them to do that.

This is strange. l have no problem with construction noise. Music noise gets on my nerves. But perhaps it would be the same with construction noise at night time. For whatever strange reason ???????????? construction is only allowed at certain times in our building ????????????. I also have Tinnitus. I can ignore it completely. I wished I could do the same with bar noise.

I agree, but than I don't understand why I can't buy alcohol during daytime and only at night....If people must enjoy themselves.....

Totally agree,  booze on sale 24h a day,

The schoolkids thing is just a load of out dated Bs.

kids find a way round all this if they want to. same as we all did back in the day.

Again it comes back to correct rules and regulations followed.

But TIT.

It makes no sense.

But it does sound inviting.

At 4 am I would have too much booze and there would be no ugly women until I wake up in the morning in my bed and say to her " who the xxxx are you ? "

Many are already doing it.

My testosterone drops off a cliff after 6pm. I'd much rather "night" spots were required to close earlier so that they would need to open early. Also, I don't need girls who don't wake up until 5pm because they've been merry-making until early morning.
