World Muslim leader heads to Yala

Yala - The Secretary General of the Muslim World League (MWL) was to visit Yala Wednesday amid tightened security, as violence continues to fester in the southern border provinces.

Abdullah bin Abdul Mohsin Al-Turki arrived in Thailand on Monday as an official guest of the government. He was due to meet the governor of Yala and local religious leaders to discuss the ongoing violence in the three southern border provinces.

BANGKOK, June 25 (TNA) - Thailand's Minister of the Interior met with the Secretary General of the Muslim World League (MWL) to review the southern violence upon the visit of the Islamic dignitary to Thailand on Monday.

After receiving Dr. Abdullah bin Abdul Mohsin Al-Turki, Interior Minister Aree Wong-araya said the Secretary General is visiting Thailand as the government's guest.

Muslim World League condemns southern unrest

Praising the Thai government on its attempted reconciliatory approach in solving the continuing violence in three southern border provinces, the visiting secretary-general of the Muslim World League (MWL) Thursday denounced militants who had created unrest and employed ill-intention towards the kingdom.

Muslim leader Dr. Abdullah bin Abdul Mohsin Al-Turki and Thai Interior Minister Aree Wong-araya jointly told a press conference that they shared an understanding that the continued violence in the three southern provinces -- Pattani, Narathiwat and Yala – did not result from differences in religion but rather from persons who harboured ill-intentions towards Thailand.

Insurgents kill 2 villagers in Yala

(BangkokPost.com) - Police found two male teenagers in Yala on Thursday believed to have been killed by insurgents.

The killings occurred almost at the same time the head of the Muslim World League was appealing to all southern Muslims to reject the use of violence.
