Chuwit: They buy elections but can't give the people true happiness - firebrand former MP enters World Cup rights debate

Daily News Thai Caption: This time they're doing nothing?

Former politician and soapy massage boss Chuwit Kamolwisit - a favorite "go to" guy of the Thai media - has entered the fray regarding the showing of World Cup matches in Thailand.

FIFA has been offered 600 million baht by the NBTC but there is still a billion baht shortfall meaning Thais may not get to watch the tournament that begins in Qatar on Sunday.

Chuwit posted a picture of the World Cup trophy on his Facebook page along with the slogan "Returning True Happiness".

That became a watchword of Prayuth Chan-ocha's regime that seized power in 2014.

Chuwit said it would only take 200 million baht a person from "five big investors" to really give the people some happiness.

Chump change for people who think nothing of loading up people into the back of pick-ups when it's time to vote in elections, reported Daily News.

The intimation was clear - they pay people to vote for their preferred candidates with huge cash inducements, this is just a measly one billion.

Referring to the ongoing action against the Chinese he said it looks like the Thais will have to be satisfied with looking at Prawit (Wongsuwon, the DPM) rather than the football.

So is that all "just a game" activities not of any purpose? No enjoyment (thus quality of life) to be gained from being entertained by football, the Olympics, Muay Thai contests etc etc.?
Gamblers will stop gambling because WC is not on the telly ?
Strange logic there…

I think a TV network should pay and sell advertising????

I reside in the UK, so when I make arrangements to travel to Thailand I book my flight and car parking well in advance, to get the best possible price. Likewise, the Thai government should have bought the broadcast rights to the FIFA World Cup well in advance and not leave it to the last minute.

If they don't understand this, then maybe they should employ an outside expert to help.

Especially when they do not take Iran to beat England by 4 goals!

Come on the people with money pay for the Qatar football .  World Cup

Bring happiness to the Thai people who enjoy sport and football ️

So 1.6 billion baht or 43 million USD so 10% of 70 million can watch soccer?  So like 6$ per viewer or 200 baht or 1/4 days wage per viewer.     I'm glad im not a sports fan

The easy solution

They should not pay FIFA as it has proven to be totally corrupt

Government too busy buying submarines, upgrading toilets in officers planes and buying new jet fighters.

So how much did Chuwit donate or pledge for the happiness of the people?

And how about the people who don't care about football but want a free (soapy) massage? I am ready to receive donations.

How did FIFA decide on that amount of money?

800.Baht days wage is for whom? Anyway, there is someone who could easily bring up that money and please his people.

Just spend the 600 Million on some useful, instead of that stupid football...

Maybe ask some Thai people how much money they bet on football.

Hint: A lot! Much more than 200B.

Didn't they just seize over 1 billion baht in cash and assets from the Chinese on line gambling mafia?  Why not use that money towards paying for it?

One baht is too much to watch a bunch of over paid men kick a ball.

They appear to have not known the WC was on until about a week ago. No planning for it, came as a complete surprise.

I don't think Chuwit would've been squeaky clean when he nominated for elections before. Did he pay his constituents cash for votes or give them free vouchers for a soapy with an extended happy ending.

Chuwit Sucks.

Yes....want see my bettet game in tv.????

We'll find a way to watch it.

No problem.

'  Why not use that money towards paying for it'

It has already been distributed to Persons of Influence!!

"It's just a game..........."? Nonsense! :-

Just joking - I agree with you about these overpaid prima donnas kicking a ball about for vast sums of money!
