National — Russian tourists packed Azur Airline and Ikar Airline flights to Pattaya and Phuket, with the expected number of Russian tourists flying to Thailand to reach one million people next year.

Siripakorn Cheawsamoot, Deputy Governor at the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), revealed that many large Russian airlines have resumed their charter flights to Thailand, which will result in an increase in Russian tourists in tourist areas like Pattaya and Phuket.

The tourism atmosphere will become busier at the end of this year, according to Siripakorn, with the number of Russian tourists heading for Thailand expected to reach the pre-Covid-19 level at one million people next year.

Why? I was living in Pattaya when they were there in large numbers and they didn't cause any problems that I was aware of.

I’ll take the Russians over the Indians and Chinese any day, we’ll for the most part. There are always exceptions.

There's many 'military refugees' in Phuket as well, my neighbour - "I'm not going to Ukraine" he tells me. Him and his wife try to make some money online and a border bounce to Malaysia soon for another 45 day stamp......uprooted lives not to mention Ukrainian lives......

I'll bet Putin is on the plane somewhere.

While I agree there are many Russians who don't want to become poorly trained cannon fodder, I am interested in how you know these young males are Russian.

The impact was felt by anyone trying to get baht buses between Pattaya and Jomtien. So much for the sanctions that were going to bring Russia to it's knees and isolate them.....

Most of these charters operate 1X weekly. And they (Pegas/Ikar, Azur) have smaller aircraft.

Aeroflot has 3X/4X weekly flights SVO-HKT/BKK. They operate B777, for which they have limited access to parts and service.

Planes are packed, in one direction at least.

True,  as noted exceptions but in general tend to keep to themselves in the Jomtien area.  Shopping I've never had problems with Drago, they can be a bit pushy but no more than the Chinese or Indians, and then you got the loud and arrogant MiddleEastens.????

I'm sorta thinking I'm seeing a few more really gorgeous young Russky ladies in Boat Harbour area last week or two.

Their choice of holiday destinations has been reduced. That's probably why large numbers  are coming here now.  Most of he draft dodgers likely escaped earlier.

Please dear Buddha spare me from any future horror of seeing hugely fat middle aged Russkie men and women in skimpy swimsuits parading in and out of banks supermarkets etc.

I don't think my heart could stand the strain of any such further blubbery visual assaults. hahahaha ????????????????????

I'm still trying to recover from seeing this obscenity, far too frequently I might add (once being horrifying enough) on Koh Chang some years back.

It seems pigs do fly after all.

Hmmmm...yippee... the Russians are back?

They can't all be conscription dodgers...

Sanctions are unfair, glad that we don't impose them here.

If banning Russians, only fair to Ukrainians too, it takes two to tango.

Sanctions are hurting other countries who should not be involved.

I know for sure, from a friend working in a visa agent and event company, that those are not tourists.
There is now a no. of traffickers, bringing in large groups of Russians under all sorts of visa - related scams. Corrupt 'facilitators' are having a field day .....

Such as Thai - language schools, Gyms (?) are full of Russians.
But of course, the main group are Russians here working online for their Russian employers, just as before, still receiving their salaries in Russia etc.
In I.T. it really often doesn't matter where you work from.

I suggest only those who have invaded another country's territory and is also bombarding another country's territory indiscriminately with missiles, killing women and children. It isn't a bloody tango, it is a war. You do an injustice to those murdered in the Ukraine.

I don't think I would want to get close enough to complete strangers with my phone, to hear and translate what they are saying.
