Thai issued IDP accepted in Japan for British national?
Direct answer: 1st Hand Experience: - Foreigner (Brit) with Full Thai License (5 yrs) - Obtained a Thai IDP - 1949 version. No issues driving in Japan (two separate car hire companies used). In Japan the car hire company expects to see both the Thai license and the IPD. ----------------- Note: you need a 5 year Thai License to obtain an IDP in Thailand. IF someone just has the temp 2 year Thai Driving License, they cannot get the IDP There are two main versions 1949 and 1968 (japan is only a signatory of the 1949 convention) ---------- DLT Queue - there is no option for a foreigner in the Online IDP Queue Booking. First hand experience again. Wife had an IDP Booking... I couldn't get one. The Non-online queue was huge, hours long. I went to join the back, then noticed there was a 'foreigners queue' (DLT Area 3 Bangchak). We were in and out in about 30mins (both with 1949 IDP's for driving in Japan). -

Health Rabies Deaths Triple in Thailand: Urgent Alerts Issued
Declaration: I have been bitten by a dog on my leg near the Big Buddha facility and required expensive Rabies vaccine plus wound dressings. It does not stop there. I live in Pratamnak Hill zone where every Soi, bus parking area, vacant lot has a pack of dogs that bark and howl all hours of the day and night. These packs run at tourists and residents alike, including women with babies in pushers, forcing people to panic and run onto the road. I have had dogs run at me barking, growling, and getting the pack to join in. This is happening all around the new Fishing Village complex, and the management of my accommodation state that the City refuses to do anything to stop and or remove the animals. People from other areas come on scooters with food and water for the dogs and the fishing village lets the animals hang around in their large carpark. I am not talking about one or two pests, but close to 30 animals on 3 streets where they guard their territories. I see people with bandaged calf muscles, the dog bite favourite target snack. I hope those feeding the dogs come here and take the pest dangerous animals to their own homes instead of aggravating the existing problem here for the rest of us. Instead, they smirk and continue to encourage the problem in someone else's neighbourhood. I implore the local government department to shift the animals or cull them, as a warning. And to fine people feeding the animals, because the dogs breed, increase the problem for everyone via attacks, disease spread, and noise pollution. And the usual dog lover responses to comments like mine will be ignored as part of the problem, unless the dog lovers come here and rehouse these animals somewhere else. Note: I recently travelled North and saw many dogs dead on roads hit by cars. The dogs in my neighbourhood run onto the streets and that has cars, trucks, and buses using their horns at all hours of the day and night to shift dogs off the road. So, lovers, come here and rescue your favoured animal before it gets hit, bites someone, or forces someone to run in front of a car. Authorities and businesses in the area, do something to address the problem. -

Report Massive Meth Bust: 2.75 Million Pills Seized in Bangkok Raid
Picture courtesy of KhaoSod In the early hours of July 8, a coordinated police operation in Bangkok led to the arrest of 36-year-old Samrit, who was caught with a staggering 2.75 million methamphetamine pills hidden in his vehicle. The suspect was intercepted while driving a black Mitsubishi Pajero, allegedly transporting the drugs to be distributed across Bangkok. The operation, spearheaded by Police Lieutenant General Siam Boonsom and involving various law enforcement units including the Military Police and the Army’s special operations centre, was the result of meticulous intelligence work. Authorities suspected that shipments were being moved from the city’s outskirts to a specific location in Ramkhamhaeng 112 alley, Saphan Sung district, a known hotspot for drug storage and distribution. At precisely 1.40am, officers noticed Samrit's vehicle, bearing the licence plate 7 กต 5060, entering the district. Its noticeably heavy load aroused suspicion, prompting an immediate search that uncovered 11 sacks filled with methamphetamine pills in the car’s rear compartment. Upon arrest, Samrit admitted to his role in the narcotics operation, stating it was only his second time acting as a courier. For each delivery, he was paid 30,000 baht (approximately 920 US dollars or 32,000 Thai Baht). He revealed that he received orders from superiors for the specific locations where the drugs were to be delivered. A background check on Samrit exposed a troubling history, with previous offences in 2015 and 2022 for possessing category 1 narcotics with intent to sell. His current charges include distributing methamphetamine without authorisation, a serious offence that highlights ongoing concerns about drug trafficking within the region. The police emphasised that such illegal activities are not just criminal offences but also significant threats to public safety and national security. The suspect has now been transferred to the Narcotics Suppression Bureau, where he will face further legal proceedings. This arrest is set against the backdrop of Thailand's ongoing battle against drug trafficking, as authorities continue to crack down on networks that funnel narcotics into the capital. The operation not only underscores the relentless efforts of the police but also serves as a strong warning to those involved in the illicit drug trade.
