Coffee shop shenanigans backfire - shop caught with their pants down for 8,000 baht

A coffee shop in Bangkok that connived with a customer to con another party out of 8,000 baht has lost out.

 

A well dressed man walked in the shop in Huay Khwang and said he wanted to buy 550 coffees. At 45 baht a cup this came to 24,750. 

 

He wanted it put in bottles and when the bill was given he asked that this be changed to 60 baht per coffee so that he could get 8,250 over the top.

 

It was agreed that the shop would make out a new bill for 33,000 baht and a staffer would go with the man to the bank in the mall to get the money in cash.

 

Meanwhile the 8,000 baht backhander had been put in a brown envelope.

 

When at the bank the well dressed man took charge of the brown envelope and told the staffer to wait outside.

 

The wait went on and on and the man seemed to have disappeared. He went in the bank to inquire but they had no idea what he was on about.

 

A police report has been filed over the missing 8,000 baht. 

 

It was not reported if the coffees went to waste.

 

But netizens jumped on the story saying a "som nam na" (serves you right) to the shop for their trickery.

 

Others wondered why alarm bells didn't ring on such a big order.

 

Many conjectured as to how he could "escape" from the confines of a sealed-off bank.

 

Others remembered a similar case in Bang  Bua Thong last year in which 400 coffees were ordered and a 6,000 baht bill hike was requested.

 

It is not known if it is the same man, reported Sanook.

Come on be flexible, many coffee shops have a long list of drinks they offer, many in addition to coffee drinks.
