Photo: Matichon by TNR Staff WITH over 10 million tourists having come to Thailand this year after the government relaxed travel measures, it has led to Grab Thailand expanding its business in Phuket with the introduction of “Call a tuk-tuk via app” service on the popular island, Matichon newspaper said Tuesday (Dec, 13). Mr. Worachat Lakkhanarot, country head of Grab Thailand, said his ride-hailing company hopes to recruit around a hundred tuk-tuk driver-partners next year with this not only helping promote tourism in Phuket but will also stimulate the economy by generating income for the local people. I'm sure the locals will be thrilled to have even more tourists clogging up the roads and making their daily commute even more miserable. And let's not forget the added bonus of having to compete with tuk-tuk drivers who can now be summoned via app - because that's exactly what the island needs, more competition for already struggling local businesses.
