Popular Post webfact
By Goongnang Suksawat Phuket – Phuket Immigration recently launched what they called the ‘White Accommodation for Foreigners’ project targeting for ‘Phuket to be Crime Free’. The project mainly focuses on foreigners being properly registered at their accomodation and not on overstay. The Phuket Immigration Chief Colonel Tanet Sukchai told the Phuket Express. “We are aiming to control foreigners who are staying and living in Phuket to make sure that they are being registered properly to Immigration for their accomodation and not on overstay.” “For the first half of this month (December 1st to December 15th) in total six foreigners were arrested for overstaying and 117 foreigners were fined for not properly registering their accomodation. Eight accommodation/hotel owners were fined for not reporting foreigners living at their premises.” The Phuket Express has covered some overstay cases below: A 63-year-old American man has been arrested in Phuket for eight days of overstaying. He reportedly did not leave his room and ate only protein capsules while hiding from Thai Immigration. London Lowf
Well, I messed up my flight calculations and left Phuket yesterday with one day overstay - sent to desk 1A and got a stamp in my passport (I can't read Thai!) but no fine so they're not being silly about it. A laudable objective and catching a 63-year-old American for a truly despicable eight days of overstaying shows that they are well on their way! A magnificent achievement guys. Any chance of some branch of law enforcement tackling the local criminals ripping off the law-abiding tourists? No, thought not. 32 2

An 8 day overstay makes me wonder why he could not do a border bounce, now that everything is open 1

I have no idea what this word salad is supposed to mean, but the jingoism of asserting a connection between TM-30 violations and "crime" is impressive. 11 4

Hellfire
A 63-year-old American man has been arrested in Phuket for eight days of overstaying. He reportedly did not leave his room and ate only protein capsules while hiding from Thai Immigration. ——— This is not a correct information. The man actually ate his feces and drank his urine. This could go on forever if not the high tech system employed by the RTP for detecting a presence of the unwanted foreigners in the country. Popular Post Bim Smith
Just six? They didn't look hard enough. More lightly whipped than crackdown. And why would someone on just an 8 day overstay be lying low in a room to hide from immigration. I smell something and it ain't good. 9

The immigration doesn't usually make you pay 1 day overstay. They waive it.

That is the normal process, they exclude one day overstays -- but two days you would have had to pay a fine. The reason why they do this I believe is because people very often make the mistake of their calculation not realizing both the arrival and departure days are part of the 30 days (i.e. they start counting at 1 as of tomorrow from date of arrival rather than the day of arrival). 6 2
Popular Post verticalift
I’d kinda like to see the Excited States of America’s Immigration and Border Patrol take the same stand. Can you imagine if Thailand were as complacent and irresponsible as the Excited States….. 2

Nice, insinuating that foreigners are responsible for all crime. The xenophobia is just dripping off the text in the entire article. Nothing new here. We're looked down upon as vermin with cash by Immigration. So what's the master plan? Get rid of the tourists that are there now and scare potential tourists into choosing another destination for their holiday? I guess there'll be no crime then... 12 2
it is what it is
while the authorities are well within their rights to track down and prosecute over stayers, they are breaking the law after all so can't complain (it's not difficult to be legal here, the vast majority seem to be able to manage it), they do seem to be going for the low hanging fruit.

So foreigners on overstay are criminals, hmmm, what do we call the high % of immigration officers taking cash in lieu of those foreigners applying for their extensions not having the correct amount of money in the bank for their extension, (no have), my pen rye 20,000 baht ok, and of course the cops turning a blind eye to traffic infringements for tea money. Who are the criminals, not Thailand's finest, give me a break, this is nothing but a total deflection from the real criminals, hmmm, wonder who that could be ????
