Justice minister Somsak Thepsuthin was in the NE of Thailand at the weekend attending events in Udon Thani on Saturday and in Central Khon Kaen yesterday.

He chaired meetings with the Narcotics Control Board in which the minister urged continuing crackdowns on drugs in the upper Isaan region.

Thai Rath said this would involve for example Udon Thani, Khon Kaen, Maha Sarakham, Nakhon Phanom and Nong Khai provinces.

In 2022 94 million yaba were seized in the region.

The justice ministry also announced a staggering seizure of assets amounting to 11.2 billion baht in the last two and a half months alone.

This dwarfs previous years' seizures suggests ASEAN NOW. It may well be related to the current crackdown on "grey Chinese" business and immigration issues.

The public have been told they can get 5% rewards for their help in seizing drug lord assets - and the ministry are "guaranteeing" that tips are 100% secure from outside detection.
