Report Race Against Time: Bangkok May Be Below Sea Level by 2030
I read this kind of topic already for several years, but I never read an article that states that the Government is making plans to find a new location for the capital. Indonesia however is already building a new capital for years, but in Thailand I suppose they will start when the water is in the streets, even in the dry season -

Crime Teacher Caught Robbing Gold Shop in Ubon Ratchathani Mall
Pictures courtesy of Matichon. A 33-year-old contract teacher has been arrested after attempting to rob a gold shop inside a popular shopping mall in Ubon Ratchathani, making off with gold jewellery worth over 1.1 million baht. The incident occurred at approximately 14:55 on 15 July at a branch of Yaowarat Bangkok Gold Shop, located in a Big C shopping centre in Siwichian subdistrict, Nam Yuen district. Police were alerted to the robbery and quickly responded, with investigative teams from Nam Yuen Police Station arriving on the scene. The suspect, identified as Mr Anusorn, a temporary teacher at a school in Dom Pradit subdistrict, was apprehended on the spot by alert mall staff. He was found in possession of approximately 22 baht-weight of gold jewellery, with a value of 1,168,210 baht. At the time of the robbery, Mr Anusorn was dressed in a long-sleeved black shirt, dark brown jeans, trainers, gloves and a full-face red motorcycle helmet to conceal his identity. Witnesses reported that he acted alone and attempted to flee the scene before being tackled and detained by security personnel. During initial questioning, the suspect confessed to the crime, stating he was driven by financial distress. He admitted to struggling with debts from online gambling and a lack of sufficient income to meet his daily expenses. Police escorted Mr Anusorn back to the scene to conduct a crime re-enactment, a common procedure in criminal investigations, before formally charging him with theft. Authorities used the incident as an opportunity to remind mall security teams and gold shop operators to remain vigilant. They urged increased scrutiny of individuals wearing concealing clothing or acting suspiciously and stressed the importance of following security protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future. Community Local Residents Protest Against Chinese-Backed Factory Construction in Chonburi
Picture courtesy of Matichon. Residents of Bo Kwang Thong in Bo Thong district, Chonburi, are up in arms over the continued construction of a Chinese-funded factory spanning more than 70 rai, despite the project having failed to receive approval through mandatory community consultations and public hearings. Mr Damrongdet, a local community leader from Village 4, revealed that construction at the factory site has proceeded almost daily without pause, sparking outrage among residents. Despite repeated efforts to engage with local authorities and relevant government agencies, the construction has not been halted. “The people in this village will not give up,” Mr Damrongdet stated firmly. “We are determined to fight because we know the potential environmental consequences of this factory. The same investors previously developed a similar facility in Nong Irun subdistrict, Ban Bueng district and it caused severe pollution. That project led to constant complaints from locals and even legal proceedings against the factory and yet they still operate illegally to this day.” Residents have staged protests around the construction site, demanding that the building work be stopped until it complies with all legal requirements. However, their calls have largely gone unanswered. The community fears that, if completed, the new facility could bring long-term environmental damage, particularly to future generations. Many residents are gathering photographic and video evidence of ongoing construction activity, and are filing daily police complaints against the factory owners. “We are asking the authorities to come and enforce the law. The factory should not be allowed to continue building without the proper permits or community approval,” Mr Damrongdet added. “We demand serious legal enforcement to prevent future suffering.” Local reports suggest that previous attempts to halt construction via official channels, including the local municipality’s emergency complaint hotline (157), have also failed to stop the factory’s progress.
