Coral Damaged by Boats and Tourist Divers at Phi Phi National Park in Krabi

Krabi – Coral was reportedly damaged by tour boats and tourist divers at an island in the famous Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park in Krabi.

 

The Monsoon Garbage Thailand Facebook Page yesterday (January 3rd) shared photos of a boat at the Ya Wa Sam Island (Koh Ya Wa) in Krabi with its anchor under water damaging coral. Another set of photos taken at the Island appear to show tourist divers stepping on coral.

The admin of the Facebook page told the Phuket Express that they received the photos from anonymous concerned local residents and divers during the New Year festival.

It's going to be a lot more damaged and trampled on in a few weeks when the influx of Chinese tourists descend on the area like locusts.

Coral has long since been entirely destroyed in that area.  

 

Divers in the photo are walking on stone not coral.

 

Scuba diving in blue nylon rugby shorts...now that is a look I have not seen before...ah its good to have the Russian back.

Somehow I remember those reports from my first visit in Thailand about 30 years ago. It seems nobody paid attention.
