Bangkok, Thailand-

Thai Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul stated just shortly ago, today, January 9th, 2023, at a press conference at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok to welcome Chinese tourists to Thailand that a controversial rule to require proof of documentation of Covid vaccination to fly to Thailand will be canceled.

This is only a few hours after the rule came into effect and an entire weekend of chaos and controversy over the sudden rules that disrupted many travelers trips and caused widespread confusion.

Anutin briefly stated that airlines will not be checking proof of Covid-19 vaccinations to fly to Thailand, although since the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand, or CAAT, had already released the new rules to all airlines over the weekend and changed them several times, it may take some time for all airlines to adjust their policies once again.

 

An official announcement from the Tourism Authority of Thailand is expected soon. It was not immediately clear if medical insurance covering Covid-19 for visitors from countries requiring a test to enter, like India or China, would stay or was also being removed.

No news on the insurance requirement, which was completely confusing information.  I'll put it down to translation problems.

Why doesn't he apologize before all the people who lost money, were kept off flights, and had their holidays ruined? No, he's celebrating with the Chinese instead.

The next flip flop will come when 50% of the tourists come off the plane coughing and spluttering eveywhere. If they are asked to test in the airport, and are positive? Then what? Or will they be allowed out and jump in a taxi? I guess they haven't thought about that yet.

Maybe the Thai government got wind of numbers of cancellations from airlines and hotels. 

 

 

I can just imagine the check in supervisors at some of these airports having a few choice words for this guy?

Obviously he doesn't realize just what an imbecile he is making of himself and the rest of the clowns?

Pretty sure some of the passengers that have been refused at check aren't too happy either?

Why didn't all the relevant parties in Thailand get together and decide on what they were going to do/say, before telling the airlines all over the world? ????

He is Chinese!

It was to be expected, that there were problems which Thailand never could solve, by these rules... and see even within 24hrs they changed the requirements, but now who will pay the damage for the travellers of yesterday and today before this announcement?? All the time the Government has no clue what they are doing.... Have no idea how Western tourism is working. It is not as in Thailand... Here they can do things in 1 day, but in foreigners have to arrange thing weeks or months before, because of heir work, tickets, etc...

I was in BKK over the New Year weekend. I saw large groups of happy, excited Chinese at Chatuchak. They've been dying to travel after 3 years. At the SuperRich at Asok BTS outside of T21, the line of them went all the way down the corridor. They've brought plenty of these guys to convert to Thai baht. Once the authorities were reminded of this being impeded, they came to their senses.

All the Thai bashers on here fail to appreciate the sublime acrobatics which enables Thai government ministers to shoot themselves in the foot while putting their foot in their mouth.

 

If you don't look carefully, you might think they were simply shooting their mouth off, but in fact there is a well-nurtured mass of drooling stupidity at play, which can be called upon at a moment's notice to annoy everyone and thereafter damage the country.

My friend already canceled and made other arrangements. To say she is not pleased is an understatement......
