Patong disgrace.

I have just returned from 4 days in this Hell hole. After being ripped off in the Soi Dragon bar on Bangla. Corrupt traffic cops, and a dirty beach that you cannot Lye on, Can't park your bike, Dodge the bikes riding up and down the Pedestrian promenade, the locals using it as a rat run due to the heavy traffic on the beach rd. The stink of sewerage on Bangla was like an open sewer running on the surface, drains with pieces of cardboard hoping to stop the Smell emitting from it. Anyone deciding on a holiday in Patong will be your 1st and last. Never been so happy to land back in Udon.

Compared to China, Patong is a heaven!

So it's safe to assume where you won't be spending your holidays. Sounds like a lovely place. Not sure why you stayed so long. After day 1 I would have been gone.

Yup, almost happened to a buddy of mine and I about 6 weeks ago, skedaddled out of that place once we saw what was going on there.  The Suzy Wong group of places were not much better with huge bar fines (3k+) and ridiculous take home price requests from the ladies.  Everyone trying to make up for COVID losses I guess.

Yes. That is ture. I saw a video where there are families in holiday at beaches there, the women sunbathing surrounded by plastic and juck rubbish, while their  holden are swimming in filthy grey water with trash floating all around them.

People will live in filth and this it's fine.  Seen the same in India.

Good for you and welcome to Thailand. I will say Patong is a sh$t hole. Having been there as far back as 1983 it is a pity it has morphed into South Pattaya south.

To which places in China have you been please?

Been to both places Patong and Udon in the past month.

I spent 10 days in Patong with my Thai family!

To be fair it was Lovely , lush!

Oh those smells one encounters when going to the ocean!

Udon is no comparison to Patong .

Every where in Thailand has its fouled smells including Udon.

What?  Just look on You Tube. Just to make it clear, I was talking a out a dirty beach in China, not Parong beach.

Oh dear - perhaps I'd better cancel my flights for Saturday................. and again at the end of May!

Think it was '96 when i went, one rip off after another never went back and never will. Phuket town was just a smelly slum, most of the beaches were too dangerous to swim at and the place was infested with ladyboys and extortionate transport fees, one big tourist trap.

Did it not cross your mind to simply move to one of the other 8 or more nicer beaches?

Love Thai beaches and spent months, years camping on the best. Never been farther than Phuket bus station in my 30 years here. Stay well clear of Samui and Pipi as well. The question is why did you go there in the first place lol

I heard from Chinese in the south of China, near the border to Hong Kong, that they travel all the way to the beaches in HK, cause theirs are so filthy.

Not sure where @JoseThailand has been but for me, I carry fond memories of the open, squat latrines of Beijing. So convenient and convivial. It was never quite the same after Tiananmen though.

Bingo, move on to a different part of the island, better yet, as long as the weather is ok, catch a ferry to islands south, Lanta, Ko Muk etc.

For many years I had a house in India and I traveled a lot in the country,  visiting also different beaches (all Goa beaches, Puri, Mahabalipuram, Kovalam, etc.)
I disagree with your impression above, or at least I agree only partially.
The level of cleanliness of Indian beaches is certainly not exciting, for sure generally worse than the Thai one, but it is very easy to make a video by framing only unacceptable details and collect a few likes.

The same can easily be done in Thailand as well.
I live in Nai Harn, and I think I could make two videos: one where Nai Harn beach looks like the most beautiful in the world, one where it looks like the most crowded and dirtiest beach in the world.

I believe that even in India you can have pleasant holidays on the beach, moreover India has many other interesting things to offer the tourist who does not just stick to a beach.

I think a lot of people on the forum have a tendency to be too radical: something is either white or black. Often there is also the gray color.

But this, of course, is only my personal opinion

If you read posts on this subforum you can't say you were not warned. Personally I've posted many times on how rotten Phuket is, and I'm not the only one. It's had a bad reputation for years.

I never visited India, but IMO Sri Lanka would be similar. Never saw as many con men as in that nasty place, and told by hotel staff not to go out at night as I might get murdered ( in the main tourist area ).

Even Phuket is better than there IMO.

Perhaps he prepaid hotel and unable to get refund.

Lanta or Railay have better beaches than Phuket or Pattaya if want a city to go with the beach ( Jomtien or Larn easily reached from Pattaya ).
