One of Australia's top politicians has admitted wearing a Nazi uniform to his 21st birthday party and has apologised.

New South Wales (NSW) premier Dominic Perrottet, 40, revealed the incident on Thursday, two days after a colleague raised it with him privately.

He said it was a terrible mistake, made when he was young and naïve.

Seriously, was it a costume/lark or is he a Nazi?

If you were a Nazi, wearing the uniform and all, would you admit it when caught, or offer some lame apology?

He definitely a Nazi, not buying the "I was young and naive" bro thing.

NSW’s next premier Dominic Perrottet is a conservative who opposed laws to force priests to disclose child abuse arguing “the confessional seal is sacrosanct no matter what sins are confessed”.

Over the weekend, his critics enthusiastically shared a 2016 post on his official Facebook account where he praised Donald Trump’s election as US President, describing it as “a victory for people who have been taken for granted by the elites”.

“If you stand for free speech, you are not a bigot,’’ he said.

No Australians have ever been under the illusion that the swastika is acceptable.

Like I said, it's in bad taste. Do you believe he's actually been a secret Nazi for the last 2 decades?

I believe that he is a right wing extremist. My link above should reveal that. Interpret that as you wish.

Dominic Perrottet's future in question as Jewish community reacts to Nazi uniform scandal

The source said Mr Perrottet's leadership was now untenable and they don't believe he can make it to the March election as premier.

They said he must now put his fate in the hands of cabinet and potentially allow for a leadership spill.

There are more than 2,000 Holocaust survivors living in the Sydney area according to the Sydney Jewish Museum and yesterday's revelation by Mr Perrottet left the community in anguish.

Don't know the man but 21 year old man is not an impressionable child. At that age, he should be fully be able to know what is deemed distasteful and morally wrong.

He was seriously involved with politics as a student so fair guess he knew exactly!

A post with an unsubstantiated claim has been removed as well as the trolling replies.

NSW Treasurer Matt Kean says "horrible cowards" forced Dominic Perrottet's confession about wearing a Nazi costume to his 21st birthday party, and challenged them to come forward.

What does it matter who revealed the video? This is a classic case of shooting the messenger as a way of deflecting from the message.
