Thai Rath reported the arrest of a man called Sarawuth, 30, from Lampang who was caught driving south from Bangkok with 2 million yaba pills in a Toyota Vios.

The highway police in Chumphon, southern Thailand, had received a tip about the car and its specific registration and were waiting on both the Petchkasem and Asia 41 highways.

On Asia 41 in Lang Suan district the car was spotted and refused to stop. A chase ensued that ended in Lamae district.

Sarawuth ran off into the bushes but was soon caught. Back in the car the drugs were in boxes on the back seat and in the trunk.

Sarawuth served four years in jail for a drug offence. On release four years ago he bought a car and became a Bangkok cabby.

But he got behind on the instalments and ex-convict friends suggested a drugs run.

He said he was being paid 20,000 baht to take the yaba from Wang Noi north of Bangkok to Trang in the south when he was caught.

The media published a picture of the suspect behind a huge pile of the drugs.
